11/20/21 LOUISVILLE VS DETROIT MERCY GAME THREAD- 2:00PM ACCNXTRA

I bet when Mavk returns Davis gets booted from the starting lineup. Don't understand why Cross or Sam is not .

If ever a team that sums up the phrase. You are only as strong as your weakest link this is the team. This team is only going to win games with everyone contributing each nite an playing harder. Hopefully when Mack returns he can push those buttons to get them motivated. Because at this point i'm not liking this team whatsoever!

Imagine the coach's son putting it to us? I've seen this before. ugh!

We just got to get the head coach back out there. The defense is just not there. Everyone is thinking about their offense with the new shoot quickly game plan.

Also need to get the rotation squared away and substitute only when needed. The enigma of loose balls and ricochet rebounds is a Louisville tradition that apparently will never end.

Sam just doesn't have consistent court awareness. He turns the ball over when he should see it coming. He looks like he's another Wayne Blackshear. A can't miss HS all-American who in his third year, still has the same issues that he had since arriving.

Now Wayne looked his best his senior year so maybe that's what Sam will do?

Not to be dramatic, but Mack or no Mack, this doesn’t even look like a NIT team.

Another terrible loss i have no confidence with them pulling this out. I klnew with Mack out things would be bad but geez not to this extreme.

There's no floor leader who takes charge. They all have a green light to shoot. No chemistry at all. That's coaching. Got to get Mack back.

ugly win. 0 points from Sam. Withers is getting eaten up on defense.

i'm expecting a loss against a tough Miss St team.
but if we can go 4-2 without Mack that would be good

Really disappointed.

Outside of West, we have not nearly enough energy and hustle on defense. We had a bunch of fouls because of lazy defense - not moving to get into position, not defending the screen well.

If Davis or Withers take another three I’m gonna cry. And we heard all the talk about how Withers was gonna be the stud on the team. Unfortunately he needs to realize that offensive production or lack thereof should not dictate effort on defense and rebounding.

Well we could do a Red & Black AA meet up and either encourage each other not to drink or just take a drink each time Red does? I believe he prefers the hard stuff. 🥃

My initial perspective from what I’ve seen so far. We are not unlike UK’s teams in the past when they brought in entirely a new team each year. They have to gel quickly. But here’s the difference, we’re suppose to be running a quicker moving offense. Well, that is a disadvantage to our returning players like Malik, Withers and Sam. But we’re staying with the pack line defense or some version of it, which I think takes more than just a season to learn and perfect, so that’s a disadvantage to our transfers and freshmen. We are going to have to be patient and hopefully by tournament time or sooner, we adapt and play more consistently. I’m sure Mack has been sending his input to Pegues.

The difference is UK's teams in the past were reloading with 5 star players that were making a pit stop before the NBA Draft, at times getting the overall #1 pick even. UofL is reloading with much less talent.

Really disappointed.
Been trying to talk you off the ledge will try again.

This team was stitched together, the HC is suspended for a very important early season batch of games.

There is no top shelf talent to be found.

You should not be expecting too much from this group, especially right now.

After everything Louisville fan has been through over the years, this team shouldn't generate too much emotion. Maybe you are just broken?

Yelp we always have scratch and dent players to work with, Hardly ever a brand new flawless top of the line appliance. It's like we can afford a brand new Benz but we always get sold a CPO with issues. And it always seems our best returning guys that we really count on hardly ever take it to the next step.

Right but there shouldn’t be any issue regarding egos except no one is stepping up to be the leader. To me it needs to be Sam but he is struggling with his own identity. Malik is a captain but unfortunately he’s just a shell of what he was. So Locke, West, Ellis are all wanting to be the man when they should be figuring out the best way to complement each other. Faulkner seems to be left out but he always is looking to find his teammates. He didn’t get much PT tonight.

I think it’s that I know what’s coming down the pike the next few years and think that this is the last opportunity to sniff the tourney for some time.

Schedule is so tough now

We have Miss St and Maryland/Richmond in Bahamas. and then road games at Michigan St and NC State coming up.

I wouldn't be surprised if we lost next 4 games or go 1-3.

Maryland is ranked #20, Richmond is 2-2.

There’s just no style. A lot of talent, but no real purpose. No alpha dog. Nothing that fits together. Like what is the identity?

I mean they look very passive/finesse, yet they’re not really skilled at ball movement/shooting to fit that style.

A lot of going through the motions. Now getting Mack back can help…as these guys hadn’t really played together…but no real option at PG at the moment…reminds me a lot of 18-19 trying mid-major options and some combo guards…no one can run the point.

If Carlik or DJ one were back, much different team.

No real point guard? Come again. West is purely a point guard and he doesn't chuck up 3 pointers the first 10 seconds of the possession. Faulkner looks to pass first and Ellis can create with his driving ability.

Point guard is not the problem. It's the deepest position. The issue I see is no chemistry and a lack of discipline and basketball IQ.

The new offense of playing fast has the guys all shooting with a green light and that has to be regulated a bit with smarter decisions. Dre Davis should not be taking six 3 pointers.

The Cards have had many struggles against lower level teams early in the season for decades. We have won ugly dozens of times and every once in awhile have a upset loss. This season was a definite with so many new players and Coach Mack missing the 6 games.

The front court is the weakest link unless Perry and/or Wheeler make big strides and both have shown potential. Malik is well, Malik. You don't know if he's going to do something awesome or awkward on every possession.

It's nothing new the team not having a star player. Nwora I guess was the last one but even the Pitino years there wasn't many all Americans on the team.

Once Mack gets back he will find the rotation and he will make adjustments during the game. He will clean up the bad shots and the reckless turnovers. I also believe we will see a better performance when the Cards play a big name school.

I've seen doom and gloom rosters before and this one is not one of them. There's so much depth the practices during the season will bring out the best in most of these players.

Have faith, it's going to get better a lot quicker than you think.

We lost to Furman and struggled with Detroit Mercy. Better is the the only thing that can happen.

We’re an elite program. I’m usually positive, but this play isn’t acceptable. And by the time he gets back, it might be too late.

This team has more than sufficient talent; it’s so typical of what happens when you return 4 starters to a team that was so dependent on Carlin Jones to run the offense at point guard and how the teammates become dependent on one player to make it happen offensively.

There are times when Samuel dominates the defensive boards and makes the mid range jumper appear automatic, at least until he misses several ones in a role at crucial times like yesterda.. For one stretch Dre Davis looked like what Mack described in pre-season practice, where he briefly dominated on both ends ……until he turned it over and took ill-advised 3 point shots when we were up by 13 points. As I expected from what I heard all summer about Matt Cross, he is quite capable of imitating Luke Hancock, but only when he is healthy and not in foul trouble. Withers is equally capable of contributing in every aspect, but not until he gets comfortable moving out of the 5 to the 4.

El Ellis shows his incredible quickness at times getting into the paint and finishing, until he attempts to repeat it when he is totally out of control. Locke and Faulkner each are extremely talented in their own way, but it is going to take a lot more floor experience before they can find some rhythm and figure out how to contribute both offensively and defensively.

West is just fine, as he is showing just how talented that he is, as his minutes increase; a defensive gem that we have not seen in a while.

Finally, I witnessed Malik leave the floor for a few rebounds; it tells me he might be getting healthy and confident in his jumping ability. His length is only effective when he uses his more than average leaping ability, something he has not displayed since his injury.

I'd add something but there's nothing to add. Agree 100% with everything.
