UK Softball went on a hitting spree Tuesday night in Ulmer Stadium and downed Louisville Softball 9-0 in a run-rule shortened five innings

Kentucky (28-9) jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first on four hits, including home runs by Erin Coffel and Taylor Ebbs. The Wildcats’ momentum continued through the second as they brought the lead to 7-0 behind runs from Hallie Mitchell and Kayla Kowalik. That closed the book on Cards starting pitcher Taylor Roby and head coach Holly Aprile turned the ball over to freshman Sam Booe to see how she fared in the circle against #8/12 UK.

The Wildcats completed the scoring with two more runs in the fourth courtesy of Coffel’s sacrifice fly and a home run from Renee Abernathy.

The failed to get a hit in the five innings.

Stephanie Schoonover (5-2) did not allow a hit in five innings and struck out four in the complete game victory

Hard to find any positives in this one -- the Cards were simply second best Tuesday night to a strong hitting Wildcats squad.

The Cardinals (21-17) will return to action this weekend when the play host to Syracuse for a three-game ACC series to wrap up a seven-game homestand
