The Cards and Nova battled through seven scoreless innings Sunday morning at the T-Mobile Classic in Gainesville, FL. Overtime was a slugfest compared to that, The Wildcats put two runs on the board and UofL responded in the bottom of the eighth with three ru s for the win.
After Villanova touched the Cards and starter Taylor Roby for a two run homer in the eighth, Gabby Holloway entered in relief and shut the Wildcats down in the remainder of the inning.
UofL battled back, though.
Easton Lotus was placed at second to start the inning (they do that in extra innings in softball) and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Carmyn Greenwood singled to drive Lotus home and scored when Korbe Otis launched a shot to left center for a triple. That set the stage for centerfielder Hannah File, who singled up the middle to send Otis home for the win.
The softball Cards (7-3) return to action Friday in the WOOO PIG Classic in Fayetteville Arkansas. (No, I'm not kidding, that's the actual name of the tournament). A strong field awaits UofL with Arkansas, Kansas, SEMO, and Nebraska participating.
