Drake's relationship with the Kentucky basketball program and head coach John Calipari is well-documented.

The Grammy-winning recording artist fancies himself a Kentucky fan and is perhaps the most visible of them all, outside of maybe Ashley Judd. But his closeness to the program means he must distance himself from recruits so as to avoid a potential NCAA rule violation.

Last fall at Kentucky's Big Blue Madness, Drake broke the rule when he obliged a photo request from a "potential student athlete." As a result, Drake received a cease-and-desist letter from Kentucky, who self-reported the violation to the NCAA, according to a report by Sporting News which cited documents obtained via an open records request. Drake is pictured with 247Sports Composite four-star recruit Charles Matthews, resulted in a Level III (non-suspension) violation.

From the report: "As part of Kentucky's self-reporting, the university sent a letter to the NCAA explaining it had "issued a cease-and-desist letter to (Drake) directing him to refrain from conversations with prospects or taking photos with prospects when that conversation or photo occurs outside the parameters established by the NCAA.""

Since Matthews had already been committed to the Wildcats for several months prior to Big Blue Madness, the school argued that it was not considered a recruiting advantage. He has since signed a letter of intent to attend Kentucky.

I like how the article called them "potential student athletes". Because they could "potentially" become actual students ... but probably not ;)
