The ACC generated more than $578 million in revenue for the 2020-21 fiscal year, a conference record and an increase of more than $80 million from the previous year, federal tax documents show.

The conference, which had its schools schedule 11 football games during the COVID-19-impacted 2020 season, did not suffer the same kind of pandemic-induced financial hits that other conferences experienced during that time period, according to the league’s Form 990, which was obtained by The Athletic.

Schools received an average distribution of $36.1 million per institution, according to the conference, which is a 16 percent increase from the previous year.

Notre Dame, which was a full member of the ACC in football in 2020 and shared its home game rights on NBC with the rest of the conference, was paid an equal share of $34,889,808 from the conference. This was an increase from the $10.8 million that the Fighting Irish received in 2019-20, when they were not a full member in football.

The ACC had distributed $497.2 million during the 2019-20 reporting period, compared to $578,309,444 in 2020-21.

The Pac-12 Conference, which scheduled just six football games per school in 2020, publicly released on Friday that it had generated $344 million in revenue for the 2020-21 fiscal year, down from $533.8 million in 2019-20.

The ACC was boosted by the second year of the ACC Network, the ESPN channel that launched in 2019 and was closer to full distribution in 2020-21 than it had been during its debut year. The conference reported $397,411,225 in television revenue for this fiscal year, up 20 percent from last year.

John Swofford, who served his final year as ACC commissioner in 2020, was paid $3,643,827 during the reporting period.
