My Take on Major College Football in Year 2032
  • 32-36 teams (Louisville will probably not be among them. Kentucky will.) in the National Major College Football League.
  • Teams will be invited to form the new league based on a few primary factors: a. Wealth of the Prospective Owners, b. Football Heritage of the universities (including attendance and alumni size and “name”), and other factors. Large state universities with many rich, committed donors and large enrollments/attendance will have a leg up.
  • This is Football ONLY. Major College Football.
  • Basketball Heritage will not factor into this set-up. Basketball will not be a part of the league.
  • League will be a for-profit corporation paying taxes.
  • Teams will be affiliated through licensing with universities. (Universities will RECEIVE payments from the corporations for royalties, rent, use of facilities, use of name, logos etc.
  • Players will be playing for the respective corporations and will receive Direct Pay and NIL fees allowed and regulated by normal commerce.
  • The NCAA will have zero jurisdiction.
  • The National Major College Football League will hold all rights and will have reached necessary agreements with all Conferences and Universities.
  • The players may or may not need to be students. Probably not. (If they must be students, such a definition will be based on a subjective determination of whether they are working toward a degree).
  • The players will have a union. They will be employees of the corporation(s).
  • There will be a playoff. 16 teams in the playoff.
  • Transfers will be allowed once yearly ... for consideration.
  • University profits from Licensing a Major College Football team to operate using their name and facilities will be used to defray and mostly pay for expenses of most other “Olympic” college sports.
  • Notre Dame will be part of the league.
  • ESPN/ABC and FOX will carry all games. Mostly for-fee Streaming. Three National mainstream TV games weekly on Fox, ESPN and ABC.
  • Approximately $5 billion annually will be generated by the League. About 20% of that amount will be paid to the respective universities. About 33% of the amount will pay directly to the players.
  • About 3,000 players in the league. They will have 6-8 seasons of eligibility. Each Player will be paid an average of about $500k per season. The players’ union will set the payment rules.
  • About 800 coaches and staff in the league.
  • New game rules to reduce injuries and to shorten game times.
