LAWRENCE — Kansas coach Bill Self has filled a void on his front line.
Cheick Diallo, a 6-foot-9 forward from Mali, committed to Kansas via his Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon. Rivals fifth-ranked player also was considering Kentucky and St. John's.
"I'm Kansas Jayhawks Bound. Thank you all for the support. C'est LA Vie," Diallo posted on his Twitter account.
Diallo's signing helps fill a vacancy in the post next to returning all-Big 12 player Perry Ellis. KU struggled in the 5 spot following the loss of Cliff Alexander (eligibility issues) last season.
Diallo earned McDonald's All-America MVP honors after posting 18 points and 10 rebounds in the exhibition game on April 1. He also had 26 points and 11 boards in the Jordan Brand Classic on April 17 to earn MVP honors there.
Mean while in the land of "Holes" also know as the blue kitty litter box they are hanging a banner following a juco commitment, gosh got dang it hee haw hang that banner boy, woo doggie cat slap it !!
Cheick Diallo commits to Kansas
The commitment from Diallo is huge for the Jayhawks, who lacked some defensive rebounding and scoring around the basket last year, and have to replace the production of Cliff Alexander, who declared for the draft after the 2014-15 season amidst eligibility issues.
Diallo, who stands 6'9", is known as a good instinctive shot blocker with a 7'3" wingspan. His rebounding and defense seem to be a step ahead of his offensive game, but those attributes should nicely compliment starting big man Perry Elllis' game at power forward.
Diallo joins incoming freshman big man Carlton Bragg in the 2015 class, which has room for at least one more scholarship player. The Kansas front line now appears to be set with Diallo, Bragg and Ellis accompanied by established role players in Landen Lucas and Jamari Traylor.
