There are many of course but just focusing on the game last night.

Defense: This is what a team should have the most control over each game. Payne has to tighten up the 3 point line Defense and try to stop all the easy penetration to the basket. That defense last night will not allow the team to beat anyone with a pulse.

Free throw shooting: No way should Cards have shot 24-39 at the line. They all were terrible except James who only missed one. Have to get consistent from the line.

3 point shooting: Shooting 2-14 for 14% isn't going to cut it either and if it's a trend will allow opponents to just pack the lane and dare the Cards to shoot.

With their length, KP might want to consider playing Zone with some of the combinations he puts on the floor. With the exception of a few guys, we seemed to lack lateral quickness.

Yeah most of our back court guys seem to lack lateral quickness to stop opponents from easily blowing by them.

Playing zone may help in the areas of need.

I agree that with a defensively deficient team, trying to protect yourselves with a zone is a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't believe KP thinks that way nor do I think he will do it.

Playing zone might help, playing triangle and two might help, playing box and one might help, playing man to man might help. Basically, playing some/any type of defense might help.
Had UMBC dropped into a zone we would've been done because we were scoring at will going to the rim.

Side note, did anyone hear KP's post game comment to Paul Rogers where he said they practice that play everyday that we scored the winning basket on ? You know the one where White mugged the guy on the rebound. You can't make this shit up, this guy is a total idiot. He was also talking like we had really done something and things were falling in place now finally. Also threw in the "you don't know how bad this mess was when we got here, we're still trying to clean some things up" not verbatim but pretty close.

Actually, UMBC did play zone and that is when I thought the game was over. Louisville actually handled it very well.

Payne comments aren’t good but you have to listen to the whole exchange. He said all that matters is winning then made those comments to illustrate the fans and media only care about winning. He is right. No one on this board wants to hear about what he walked into. All we care about is winning and how the team looks when winning or losing. When things are this bad he needs to say less and just blame himself and staff.

If they played zone it must've been on a possession by possession basis or it was so weak it was unnoticeable because we got to the rim at will and most of the time unimpeded..

Seems to me coaching should be at the top of this list.

Whatever kind of defense we play, some player (or players) for the other team always has a career high. Points, 3s, offense rebounds, etc. EVERY game.
