League Notes

With nine conference games remaining in the regular season, Louisville (19-2 in ACC play) maintains a five-game lead over Florida State in the Atlantic Division after both teams swept their respective weekend series. Miami (15-6) holds a 4 ½-game lead over second-place North Carolina in the Coastal Division.

The ACC is tied for first among all conferences with three teams ranked among the top 10 of the most recent NCAA RPI (Miami No. 3, Florida State No. 6 and Louisville No. 7). Six ACC teams rank among the top 30 and eight are in the top 50.

Florida State’s Chris Marconcini was voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Boston College’s Mike King garnered Pitcher of the Week accolades. Marconcini had a spectacular week in leading the Seminoles to a 4-0 mark, including a win over No. 7 Florida and a series sweep of Pitt. He hit .467 (7-for-15) over the four games with five home runs, 13 RBIs, and six runs scored. King threw a complete-game one-hitter against Georgia Tech last Friday night as the Eagles won the series opener, 1-0. He struck out a career-high eight batters and didn’t allow a walk en route to his first win of the season and his first career complete game.

Marconcini, who was named the ACC Player of the Week last year as a Duke Blue Devil, is the first player in league history to earn ACC weekly awards at multiple schools.

Both King and Marconcini were named Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week as well.

The midweek nonconference schedule features 17 games, including Clemson at Georgia on Tuesday night, and Boston College versus Massachusetts in the 2015 Beanpot Championship at Fenway Park on Wednesday evening. On Wednesday, No. 14 Florida Atlantic and No. 13 Miami face off in a big midweek ranked matchup.
