Have to eliminate the extra benefits infraction. schools won't have to come up with a dime of money, you simply let each recruit act in a free market and they can put their services up for bid to any school. you can then allow boosters, agents and runners to "bribe, buy, hire, contract" the kids, using private money instead of the school's money. you put everything in the books and make the kids pay taxes on it. no need to change anything in the entire system, just eliminate the extra benefits. schools don;t need money, just the boosters. the risk is a booster could pay a kid $200,000 and the kid just keeps the money but that's the boosters risk not the schools. there i've saved the ncaa

zipp, i don't think it matters whether you let players go from high school to nba because when those players go you'll be paying the next level guy who doesn't go to the nba. every booster wants their team to win the title, they are going to try to buy the best remaining players. eliminating the OAD solves nothing and not sure why people think it will as money now goes to 5 star players who aren't nba ready. and 4 star players who will help your team. money will never stop flowing. boosters and fans want bragging rights at any cost. look at t boone pickens and phil knight, they've pumped hundreds of millions into their programs hoping for a title. the money will always be there, it just goes to the next guy/girl in line

quite simply, the ncaa should be a free open market capitalistict place where the players talent and negotiating skills drives price.

NO. I won't watch the NBA light. If I want to watch paid players I'll watch the NBA. I say go the other route. Give them nothing but shoes and a jersey. Let them play for the name on the front of the jersey.

Glass I guess that means for you the college team with the most fans, the most boosters, and the most money, get the best players? Right is that what you envision as a free market? Wake up man even the NFL has a salary cap! Your stupid idea is dumb dude!

No solution will work perfectly. But you take the most NBA-likely kids out of college basketball, most of college basketball's problems go with them...

That will be the end of college sports. And that might be where we’re heading, but I won’t be a part of it. I will simply find another activity to occupy my time. If I want to watch professional BB I would be an NBA fan and I’m not. I will continue to cheer on my Steelers which I was fan of long before the Cards.

in case some of you haven't noticed the payment system is already going on. we were going to pay bowen $150,000 and he's not even a first round prospect. and remember you've only got 12 scholarships so it doesn't matter how much money you have only twelve kids can play for you so one school won't be better than the others. plus you still have to coach kids and make them play together. face reality, my idea is already going on, i'm just taking the shadiness out. remember tre erik dickerson .30/30 saga he got a trans am i think from one school and went to smu instead. what were they going to say give back our bribe. all this payment stuff has been going on since the beginning of time. if you say you hate my idea then you must hate all mens college sports right now because it's not just the coaches they play for. the best kids play for money and a ton of it. oj mayo got $250,000 at usc. iwhy not simply make the money transparent. that's the only thing i'm changing about the system. make the benefits they already get something you can't be penalized for. show me a better way to pay the athletes. remember, the non-profit ncaa has a billion dollar tv contract off the backs of the basketball players. and this is fair how? yet they punish the kids for taking a meal. again, they should be free to go wherever and accept whatever money they want.

Your argument is blanking stupid. The azzholes already get paid through an ALL expense paid education, gear, food, books, room etc.Get out of here with that crap. If the crybabies don't like it they don't have to play. Once again I say take it ALL away and let them play for the love of the game, ---- crybabies.I played football and baseball in high school, wheres my cut on the concessions, ticket sales, parking fees etc?

The easiest step is to again make freshmen ineligible. That also forces the NBA's hand because they won't like the NCAA beating their OAD strategy...

This step would be a great one but that would cost the NCAA and NBA too much $ I think... Marketing, etc....

I like this.

I like this a lot!

It has so many benefits and fixes a lot of thing.

It would force STUDENT-athletes to do college level work for a full year (vs. the one semester they can do now). It would allow those that really want to be STUDENT-athletes to focus on studies during the usually challenging transitional freshmen year.

And if they want to play for 4 years - give them 4 years of playing eligibility.

The NBA needs to quit using college as its developmental league and draft positioning league.

They are just doing what is in their best interest. The NCAA should stop allowing themselves to be used in that fashion by the NBA. Returning to freshmen ineligibility would be one way.
It is really the only way to restore SOME integrity back to the game. There have been more than a few who post here who have been saying that for a few years now. Most of the UofK fans who post here were against the idea for obvious reasons. Now we're seeing some UofK fans saying it's a good idea. LOL. Wow is all I can say.

Bottom line here is the OAD rule is an NBA rule, and the only way to combat it is to make ALL NCAA frosh ineligible to play yet still give them 5 years to play 4. That wouldn't hurt the NCAA in any way IMO because the fans who really love college basketball love being able to watch these boys become men before our eyes. True college basketball fans get attached to the true student-athletes because we see them shaped into men by having that full collegiate experience.

Exactly right. It's all declining value after that. Then all you have are the boosters with their own agenda. A agent or shoe company isn't going to give a kid with little NBA future $100,000.
