Women’s Basketball Recruiting List for 2021 and beyond

Not Sonja and she can surely expand and provide greater details...but, from some research this is what I find.
1. Two commits at this stage with Verhulst, 6'1" G from Kansas and Schetnan, 6'5" C from South Dakota.
2. Originally this class would be small as only Dana is a Sr next year. But, if Robins and Duvall both depart as expected that should allow CJW to go after at least one more commit. Two maybe?
3. Who? Who knows?
a. PG maybe? Raven Johnson, 5'8" from ATL. Shylanne Day-Wilson, #1 PG in Canada (Maybe a Merissah Russel connection?)
b. F/Post? Sania Fagin, 6'3" from Georgia. I think this would be my choice. Go big and then find a PG in the next class to go along with Alexia Mobley, 6'2".

Per ESPNW, Verhulst is:

A fundamental guard manufactures shots, rises and knocks down the mid-range jumper with consistent results; triple-threat creator keeps the defense hones with 3-point delivers beyond the arc; back court size, versatility add to her resume as a coveted guard in the class of 2021.

If you've heard the interview we did with her, she is a special one.

On Schetnan:

An agile low-post prospect patrols the paint, rejects shots, rebounds and initiates the fast break; mobile in uptempo game; skilled interior game, keeps ball away from the defense, finishes plays in traffic; displays soft touch in face up game; a sleeper prospect with off-the-charts potential.

We're in the process of trying to set up an interview with Schetnan.

Alexia Mobley

She's an athletic hybrid-4 with next level impact; quick-leaper, active in the paint, versatile defender; finishes plays in isolation, rises over the defender; finishes plays in transition; a stock-riser in the class of 2022.

It's hard to predict right now just who else Walz and his staff are going after for 2022. I'm sure that the coaches are making contacts and recruiting via phone, telecommunications and such, but, without the aspect of being able to visit personally and watch 2022 recruits in AAU, high school and other action -- it's anyone's guess right now.

Bullitt East has two that will be good ones in Emma Egan and Gracie Merkle and it'll be interesting to see how their junior and senior seasons go for Chris Stallings. Louisville Butler's Dynastee White is an athletic combo guard and has reportedly head from a lot of DI programs.

Three 2022 players I like a lot are Lauren Betts (6'7" post) from Colorado, Isuneh Brady (6'3" post) out of California and Ayanna Patterson (6'2" wing) from Indiana. Patterson is out of Homestead High School in Fort Wayne and is very explosive in the paint. She reminds me of a young Myisha Hines-Allen and would be a great "get" .

@Sonja Do you think CJW redshirts both Verhulst and Schetnan? Verhulst due to a plethora of players at her position and Schetnan just to allow her time to develop a bit more. Obviously, if he thinks they can come in an immediately play significant minutes I know he'd play them. Yet, if he can RS a Nyah Green I figure he can RS just about a anyone.

That's a tough one to figure, on red-shirts. My guess is that Schetnan might redshirt in Volleyball before hoops, but that is purely conjecture. Sometimes, it is the player's choice that goes into the final decision as well. Remember, Walz strongly suggested to Bionca Dunham she red-shirt her freshman year ,but she was adamant on playing. (How'd you like to see Bionca as a senior with this upcoming squad?) So, there are a lot of factors involved. And, let's see how their senior seasons in high school go. .

I'm not one to try and second-guess any coaches (or student-athletes) plans or desires, for sure. I think Green and Parker will really benefit from the redshirt year and be a strong presence in the 2020-21 Louisville WBB fortunes. .

I agree. Bianca would have really benefited from the RS. Based on what happened to the end of the season I am really glad Green and Parker RS’d.

I watched Verhulst play in the World Cup games with a host of really talented players. She held her own and was voted MVP in the Gold Medal game. Sydni Schetnan is very smooth and at 6’5” she is a huge asset. I really think the coaching staff has done a great job of recruiting talented players.
The thing I like the most is that these players are not only talented but they are really good people. I’ve listened to interviews with them as well as Hailey Van Lith and these are really likeable people.

Paulie is working on getting an interview with Sydni Schetnan and I'm hoping he'll share it with me so I can share it with you. If he wants clean clothes for next week, I have few doubts he'll comply.

In the interview with Verhulst the funny thing he asked her what type of music she listens to. She laughed and said she gets a lot of slack for this but she likes Disney music.
