Why not just keep the National Title at this point?

I mean really, why not? I'm 33 years old and even for me it might be the last National Title in basketball I ever get to experience. It will definitely be the last National Title in basketball that my mom (who is 68 and crushed by this news) and dad (who is 70) will ever experience. The one good thing is my dad and I experienced the National Title in person in Atlanta and nothing can ever take that memory away.

But at this point why don't we simply tell the NCAA to kiss our a** and that we are keeping all the wins, the 2012 Final Four and the 2013 National Championship. What else are they going to do to us? They are essentially going to give us the death penalty anywhere. I mean at this point here's what we're potentially looking at:

2 - 3 year NCAA tourney ban
10 year probation
10 year major scholarship reductions
Most likely no in home visits for several years

I don't necessarily see them doing a TV ban as the ACC would fight that and it would impact too many other schools. I think those days are over. But as others have said they will essentially give us the death penalty. So here's the thing, if we're going to essentially give us the death penalty anyway why not just keep the National Title. What's the NCAA going to do, ban us from the NCAA tournament for life? At this point who cares, we won't be a factor anyway. Shut down the basketball program? Who cares, they'll essentially do that anyway.

Ask yourself this, would you rather keep the 2013 National Championship and have an end to the basketball program or lose the 2013 National Championship, still get what is essentially a death penalty and then never have a real chance to win a National Championship again.

I'll take the former, I'll at least always have those memories, even if UofL basketball ceases to exist. At this point we're so screwed the NCAA has nothing else they can harm us with. We can consider it our basketball program's last middle finger to the NCAA.

U.K. basketball won a national championship less than 10 years after getting slammed by the NCAA. Hopefully your folks can live another decade.

History is not on their side. The average life expectancy of a male in the U.S. is around 78, he's 70. While females in the U.S. live longer but for my mother her mother died at 75, her dad died at 68. My mom already suffers from severe arthritis and has significant trouble walking. Most likely they will both pass away within the next 10 years. I hope not, trust me I hope not, but that's being realistic.

You are also kidding yourself if you think UofL will be able to compete for an NC in 10 years. We'll still have major scholarship reductions in 10 years. We're going to become just like IU, historically significantly but irrelevant in modern college basketball. My mom in particular is such a huge fan, I don't think she could emotionally handle the 2013 banner coming down. I could see her being one of those who literally dies of a broken heart. So I say keep the 2013 National Championship, no matter what the consequences.

UL basketball is not over. A bump, blimish, probation, even a death penalty UL will survive and continue to grow.

Louisville is a phenomenal University. Regarded highly in the medical field. Have some of the best athletic facilities and coaches nationally. Also think you can't call it a commuter school. If they clean house UL will continue it's rise. As far as anyone knows they may end up even stronger than before. I know it's easy for a non UL fan to state these opinions but I feel bad for a lot of my family and friends who are cardinal fans.

Coming from a UK fan that is very nice of you. I expect that most UK are gloating right now like it's Christmas at our demise. You show class that most UK fans are incapable of.

With that said, we are potentially screwed. If we simply lose Pitino then we just lose the men's basketball program and we still have great programs in football, baseball, women's basketball, swimming and soccer. If we lose Jurich though I don't think we'll ever be the same. Despite what you might think about Jurich every non-biased poll shows that Jurich is considered the best AD in the country. You simply can't replace someone like Tom Jurich. If we lose Jurich at this critical juncture then UofL athletics as we know it will go downhill and slowly die. UofL right now can survive with Pitino but not without Jurich.

With what's about to happen with our men's basketball program I think we should keep the 2013 National Championship at all costs. Even if it means the NCAA shutting down our basketball program.

I have another crazy idea, after firing Pitino tomorrow how about rehiring him? I can't think of any other coach that has the experience of bringing program back to prominence after probation like Pitino did with UK. It could be the fresh start that both he and the program needs to get back on track.

Excellent point

There's been a lot of posts on here as well as other UofL sites about how many UofL fans are seeking entertainment alternatives. There are many of you who have said you are done with UofL basketball if not UofL as a whole. There are many here who have said they'll take sports with more perspective or that they'll spend more time with family. How will the impending death penalty (or at least death penalty for all intensive purposes) on UofL basketball effect you?

Sadly for me it will effect me pretty greatly. I won't lie, I'm a diehard UofL basketball fan and this has devastated me. Though I live in Florida I do occasionally suffer from Seasonal Depression Disorder in the winter, UofL basketball and college basketball in general has always helped me though that. It will potentially be a big adjustment for me without UofL basketball. I loved watching the NCAA Tournament and part of my life will feel empty not having that tradition in March.

Now I know some of you will say to have some perspective, that it's just a game, to spend more time with your husband/wife, kids, parents, siblings, etc. Sadly for me I don't have as many options as most of you have. I am not married and at this point even though I'm only 32 I have SAD and significant medical issues. Needless to say no woman will have any interest in me now. Part of that is also because I never wanted children, so unlike most of you I do not have a wife or children to distract me. I have my parents and a brother but they are all up in Kentucky so I only see them a couple of times a year. I have a few friends but being an introvert I don't have some huge friend network of 20, 30, 40 people. Largely outside of a few friends and a small immediate family I am alone. But sadly there's more to it than that, and that's why I'm writing this message. I have been having severe allergy, sinus, throat and digestive issues for the last 1 - 1 1/2 years (hence when I said significant medical issues) especially in the last 3 months. I have been seeing an ENT doctor for the last month and they have been doing some tests. The doctor has mentioned several possibilities including throat cancer. I don't know what it is but I have a gut feeling it is throat cancer, I can simply tell that my body is in a phase of shutting down. It's been failing on me for a year and a half now. It's something I never thought would happen to me this early in my life.

At this point I figure I probably have a few years left at most. In terms of relating to UofL basketball I was so hopeful that I would see us make one last National Title run. That I would see us hoist the trophy one last time, maybe not live like I did in 2013 in Atlanta, but at least on TV. Sharing that moment with my father was a moment I will never forget, and despite what the NCAA thinks, a moment they can never take away from me. UofL sports is a big part of my life and gives me joy and sadly a lot of that joy has now been taken away. Most likely now I will never see UofL basketball in the NCAA Tournament again. I will most likely never see UofL basketball be a national power again or win a National Title again. I definitely feel like a part of me has already died today.

I know this is a very dramatic thing to post, it's something I haven't exactly shared with a lot of people but it's something I wanted to share with you all. While obviously not as dramatic how will the loss of UofL basketball personally affect you?

Through all of this the one thing I hope is the following. While many of you are very angry right now, I hope long term you will still support UofL athletics and UofL as a whole. It's easy to be there for the good times, not so much during the difficult times. Please stay with UofL and support all the student athletes, now more than ever.

I hope there's some sarcasm here I'm missing.. If not, this is the dumbest post I've seen today out of several hundred..

You do that, great idea.

I know you're hurting, and this is a terrible situation, but keep your chin up. Try not to let things that are out of your control affect too much, I know thats easier said than done.

The UofL is bigger than any one person, keep that in mind, the foundation for success was laid long before any person currently at UofL arrived.

I have voiced my opinion that I am done with U of L basketball, but they can win people back if they handle this correctly. I will always support the football team, the baseball team, and others. College Basketball is a slimy business that's been run by a bunch of mob boss coaches for years. I just don't want another bad headline for my University for my entire life unless it's about on the field results that don't go our way which I can handle more than impending doom of the death penalty. If we clean house in the basketball program and are a top 25 program within the next few years and we are not cheating then I will support the basketball program. U of L basketball has just been that friend that continues to hurt you and you bring them back into your life and then they run off with all of your money to thank you.

Respectfully, I'm not sure that is an option.
Just because the university says they are "keeping" it doesn't mean the NCAA or any other school will recognize it.
It will be stricken from the records as if it had never happened.
It would be the same as me telling people I won a gold medal at the olympics.
(which I didn't):(:(

I'd be surprised if UL is forced to vacate; that would be unprecedented. Of course Wooden was dirty as sin, and nothing happened. Louisville needs to be punished harshly, but I think vacating a championship is too much, unless this bribery thing is proven to stretch far beyond 2015.
