Any insiders with a hot take?

The pending hire of Mack gives him plenty of time to impress that nice FR class we just had.

Thoughts?

From what I've seen, the players are happy with the hire. Mack will talk with them tomorrow before the presser at 4pm est. I also heard Ray was happy with Mack being hired as well, but it all depends on combine results for him..

Well I saw a tweet from Demling that said Mack already made 5 offers? Maybe that’s for 2019? If not somebody’s not going to be happy.

He has to evaluate his roster. Spalding is probably gone if he is a 1st round pick.

Center-Pretty solid Williams and UConn transfer
PF-Need a banger in a bad way. Nwora could be a stretch PF or SF.
SF-Deng, and King are SF's, the experiment with Deng as the SG didn't work. King is a wild card no way he is this bad but 2 years it hard to predict his growth potential
SG-They need a SG in a bad way. They need dude(s) at this position.
PG-Perry has to get better in a big hurry. McMahon has to learn how to play PG. Need to recruit a stud here.

Thomas could transfer, he doesn't appear to be able to play at this level.

The right additions this team could be pretty good.

'19 and besides.....we had a 5 man class coming in for next year anyways. He's going to look at the UofL team tomorrow, talk to them, then he'll figure out what we need for this class.

Well, I know why he did it in such a hurry. Dead period starts tomorrow until April 5th. But I thought he would at least talk to our players first.

I used to think that the program will be "bled dry" talent-wise. But now I wonder if that's the case. It is pretty clear that the NCAA won't be handing down any penalties for the Bowen stuff until at least 2 years. If a Notice of Allegations came today, it would be at least a year before any infractions were imposed. Therefore, the next 2 seasons are pretty safe and Mack can tell the team and potential recruits/grad transfers with a clear conscience that Louisville will compete for NCAA tournaments for the next 2 seasons. That's a bit of time to get some traction with his new job and who knows what the NCAA will do with all of the programs swimming in the dirty water. Let's see what happens.

Everyone stays except Ray and Adel. Losing Ray will hurt, but he needs to go earn his $$.

He is not a first round pick, so why does he have to go earn his $$? He could come back next year and move into the 1st round for more, guaranteed $$.

I have the same question. Who has Ray as a first round pick?
He has first round potential and he is more prepared than Earl Clark, Samuels, Jennings, Jaylen Johnson. Spalding has developed a post move with the little hook from either hand and can shoot the 15-20 ft jumper. What he needs is strength and muscle but he doesn’t need to stay in college to get that. Also 3rd coach in 3 years, which has to be some adjustment. Would like for him to stay but he has good reasons to test the waters.

Ray is clearly our best pro prospect and I agree, has 1st round potential but...more prepared than Earl Clark was coming out after his junior year? Nah my man, nah.

Yep, that's crazy talk right there. Clark was his size, if not bigger, and could actually shoot and handle the ball. I am afraid that Ray is going to leave no matter what and I personally think that is a mistake. Jaylen finally signed an NBA contract, but would been better served coming back. Someone should point that out to Ray.

Crazy talk?

Earl 6-10 225 in pros
Stats as junior -
14.2 ppg, 8.7 rebs, 1.4 blocks, 32.6% 3 pt FG, 45% 2 pt FG

Ray 6-10 215 as junior
12.3 ppg, 8.6 rebs, 1.7 blocks, 56% 2 pt FG

Earl lasted 3 years in NBA and got good money... Ray should get at least equal. Earl’s strength 3 ball, weakness - didn’t like contact.

Earl had an offensive game. Ray does not and he also is not too fond of contact. Unless, you can shoot outside you better be able to finish at the rim. Ray needs to work on that, too. You do know that Earl was drafted #14 and Ray is projected mid 2d round to not at all. Obviously, the NBA agrees with me and several others here. Crazy talk.

Apparently Earl didn’t. I think the scouts will see that Ray has a bigger upside with Ray, especially with his attitude and defense. We will see in the combines.

The mock drafts do not agree he has a bigger upside. If that was true he would not be projected so late, including some where he is not even drafted. Of course, they are not always correct, but there is an obvious consensus. I love the Ray Spalding we saw most of last year. However, I don’t see anything about him that will be so superior to other 4’s at the combine. I hope the best for him, but it’s doubtful that the combine changes his draft position very much. I think you either have a slight bias against Earl or for Ray. I’d love to have him here for another year, but if that is not happening I’d love for him to be a lottery pick. I just don’t want to see another Jennings, Samuels or Johnson.

Jmo,but Ray only helps himself by coming back.I'm not changing my mind on that and I'm already on the record with that...So,one more summer in the gym, becoming a gym rat and his stock will rise to where it needs to be.Jmo.

Bingo, hit the weights, some protein drinks and a few buffets along the way. That, or develop a strong 15 foot shot.

Mack says he’s “watched a lot of film”.

If he has, they should be worried.

New coach. New expectations. New effort needed.

My bias against Earl was that I didn’t think he was ready and I think Ray also is not ready. What I am saying is Ray is or has better potential than Jennings, Samuels and especially Jaylen Johnson. But why don’t you ask JJ if he made a mistake now that he’s played in the NBA.

No, that is not what you said. You said Ray is more prepared than Clark, but keep trying.

Yes, I think JJ did make a mistake because it would have been earlier if he stayed. I am happy for him, but to say that Ray was equal or better than Clark when they announced to go is flat wrong and the draft order proves that. If you are a lottery pick you have to go because it is too much money to forego. If you are late 2d round or maybe not even projected to be drafted you should stay in school, i.e. TJ and JJ.

We have no idea how long JJ will be in the league. You act like everything is OK because he signed a short term contract. That is not the objective, unless you want to be able to tell your grandchildren that you once played in the league. That sounds like Crash Davis.

The only thing I agree with is Ray should stay. He easily could go from questionable draft status to lottery pick.

Clark had the handles to get his own shot on the perimeter Ray simply does not have that skill at this time.

Another stat conveniently left out was the fact that Earl got 3.2 APG his JR year. That is a very strong # for a PF in college, especially considering he played alongside Williams who handled the ball alot as well as Padgett who also had offense run through him from the high post. The APG point to a more diverse game that plays more to the next level, and helped explain why he was the 14th pick.
