Where’s the Energy

I honestly don't know what you should have expected.

This has never been a really good team to give you any indication they were going to come out and blow some doors off.

I dont expect them to blow the doors off. But I do expect them to compete against a shitty Duke team and with our NCAA fortunes in the cross-hairs. Outside of Carlik, I saw no energy. I just don’t understand the low energy.

Avg to below avg teams find a variety of ways to lose. Fans can look at each loss and point to their explanation and there is probably some degree of truth in all the opinions.

I just think the bottom line is they can't shoot 3s have no size have no depth and are too young. These flaws are inescapable.

Carlik Jones: “The first two times (vs. Duke) we wanted it more. Tonite they wanted it more ... They treated it like a championship.”

Class act.

He could have added "We can't shoot 3s their C destroyed us because we have nothing up front, and I am one of the few experienced guys we got"... He would have been correct if he was inclined to go there but players refrain from pointing out roster flaws at this level.

You have to question their desire to win. Jones is a fighter. The rest not so much. You need super competitive guys. They seem like losing is no big deal.

Next year is going to tell us what we have in Mack. They flounder around again then it is safe to safe it is time for a change.

Incredible that our coaches didn’t relay to our guys how Duke was going to treat this game and get us to match (or at least) try to match their intensity.

I don’t ever think it is as simple as coaches saying something it is more about the entire culture of the program. This team had this issues all year with their effort.

The issue is this is becoming a trend. That is a problem. That has to be the foundation of any program.

This team is tied for 306th in 3 pt shooting FG%. Do you guys think this stat is due to a lack of trying?

I think everybody posting here needs to take a step back and think about that statistic, then think about it some more. Then think about having that sort of statistic without having one player taller than 6-9 on the team getting minutes.

This team has a hybrid 6-8 RS FR starting @ C LOLOLOL! I just can't understand why some 7 foot kid for Duke just dropped a 20/20 type of line on the Cards. The other "big" on this team is Slazinski. Is it starting to sink in now? I love some Dre Davis but the kid is still just a FR and maybe 6-5?

The star PG made 17 3s in 18 games playing a whopping 37.5 min per. The other star G played 35 min per. Which leads to another issue. This team didn't have enough players.

Look @ your frontline. Look @ your 3 pt "shooting" ugh.

This is not a very good team.

I have no idea how they won 13 games I think it's an indictment on how bad the ACC was this year, seeing this team finish the reg season over .500.

As energetic and ready to play as the 2019 team was against Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Couple that with the fact that Duke has only one way to get in the tournament and you get this result.

Since January 27th, we've played 6 total games. How many scholarship guys are injured? And it wasn't just games we couldn't play, we couldn't practice much either. When you can't go in the gym or play games, the energy is not going to be there.

Now Mack's adjustments, there are some questions, but the energy is hard to build when our guys just aren't in game shape.

To speak more directly to the topic - energy. Maybe the lack of energy is in part a result of no fans, limited fans, whatever it is. Or just not being part of an upper echelon team in general, without going into reasons as to why they weren't a ranked team. Maybe one guy had one foot out the door, maybe another did as well. Maybe the team overall just isn't mentally tough, and when hit with adversity there was no fight. Maybe some players have a hard time getting into it when their time at Louisville is going to be short. Maybe a lack of energy is just a result of guys not being together long enough to truly bond.
