What is the story on Virginia?

They are a gimmick, and some teams can solve it, others not so much.

They get a very generous whistle in ACC play - being part of the "old guard" helps them in that way in the regular season, but they don't get the same treatment outside of the league. They get away with murder in the ACC, it's rather ridiculous really.

The 39 points they hung on the Gators was impressive. Yeah Indiana, better go hire Tony Bennett over Greg Marshall.

The coach of Florida, Mike White is a rising star and sure to be a thorn in Cow's side for years to come.

Sports - particularly at the collegiate level - are about matchups. UVA's packline defense works against UofL because our offense gets thrown out of sync when we get a hard hedge at the top. We end up going east-west against it, rather than south (screw north - that's backpedaling - right?) against it and get too deep into shot clocks and force shots.

I think our defense also is predicated on teams speeding up and getting out of what they do best on offense - neither of which we've been successful doing against uva.

Some teams just have other teams' numbers. Might want to go to Syracuse or Pitt's boards to read similar threads about us.

Is that really a possibility? How in the world is IU a better job than UVA? Does Fred Glass own a time machine?

BP yes! IU is 30 years removed from their last title. They are simply not an elite program anymore. UConn has 4 titles since IU's last. FOUR!!! Hahahahah.

Felt a little skeevy liking a post that jocks uconn after those pretenders thought they deserved UofL's ACC spot. Felt like I needed to - so you wouldn't leave the board...:)

I don't have a horse in this race, but I think this "not an elite program" hype is over-blown. Programs go through dark periods. And it's harder than ever to win the championship.

It's not like IU hasn't had contenders since 1987. They just haven't delivered the title. They've had several elite teams that didn't get it done for whatever reason. They looked like an elite team early this year before injuries devastated them. They were one of the favorites to win it all in 2013, the year UofL won it. IU was the pre-season favorite that year.

I get that people want to make fun of IU while they're down, and they're clearly at a crossroads as any program is with a coaching change. If they go out and make a great hire they will be right back in the thick of things again, at least that's my prediction.

IU is setting on a ton of instate talent but doesn't recruit it well, according to Dan Dakich. This goes back to the final years of RMK and includes every coach since. None of them seem to want to schmooze the HS coaches in Indiana.

Thought it was an interesting take.

John Belein of Michigan and Chris Mack of Xavier, along with Thad Matta and Sean Miller B4 him, get a lot of players from the state of Indiana.
