So all of our kick a$$ ability across nearly every sport has me wondering....what other schools that we schedule out could potentially become, or already is, a rival across the board in sports, or at least in the major sports, basketball, baseball and football.

We all know the status of UK as really being a one sport rival, same could be said of the new forming relationship we have with Clemson.

I ask because I honestly can't think of a school that we would play on a consistent basis that has a great athletic program with success across the board like we do. Would love to have a school that we are able to have on going battles with when it comes to all of the major sports.

Any ideas?

Of the schools we currently play regularly, Notre Dame would be closest to that, probably followed by Virginia. Imo, Ohio State would be a great fit for that, but I doubt they have any desire to start such a rivalry with us.

Honestly if you only look at Football, basketball and baseball, there are not many programs on par. The ones I can think of maybe Miami, but their football and baseball are not great and they simply haven't come close to a basketball NC. Stanford (the Cardinal) is another program that in the past has consistently good teams across the board but not lately. Virginia has been good in both baseball and basketball but average in FB. Same goes for North Carolina.

I would say North Carolina, that football team is better than average. They played tough in FB the last few times we played them. FSU, that basketball team is getting better.

Miami baseball is incredibly good.

When you're the best overall athletic program in the country, how can you have a rival but in name only? You really can't, and I'm good with that.

Jurich is trying to position us as a national program. It's why I don't like this regional mindset that it's a school in a contiguous state, within a few hours' drive, whatever. A rivalry is not a prerequisite to success nor is it something to necessarily be proud of. It could be argued that if your rival is down here...

... and you aim low, that's where you'll end up. Don't think of a rival as a team than can embarrass you merely by the association.

Jurich isn't trying. He is succeeding. UofL overall has one of the best athletic departments in the nation. That's all I care about.

My first thought was Florida. Down in hoops, but good in every other sport.

Texas would be a good one.

Maybe not a great traditional power, but I like the idea of playing K-State home and home on a 4/6 year contract.

How do you guys measure this? There is only one all around measurement out there and it doesn't really support this statement. Although that measurement may not be the best. Not sure

There are several areas in which to measure the athletic department's success. Academics is a key component. Title 9 compliance is another. Having many different programs competing and winning on the national stage is the easy one to see.

We are the University of Louisville Cardinals. #L1C4

Multiple Top 7 final rankings in football, multiple Final Fours and a NC in men's basketball, multiple CWS appearances in baseball, multiple Final Fours in women's basketball, and a National Title game in men's soccer. What does YOUR school have to support being a well rounded sports program?

I have only ever looked at the Capitol One rankings for those sort of things and Louisville inst usually near the top. That's why i ask. Again, that may be a bad ranking tool, I just don't know of others.

Again I ask, what does your school offer as evidence of a well rounded athletic program?

I'm confused. I gave you the only ranking I have ever seen. Is that a good tool to use? Im not talking about any other school. Just looking for some clarification on why UL is a top tier program.

And I offered the evidence of why we feel we are a top tier program. You are here, on a Louisville message board, because you have some connection/interest in the Louisville program. You have offered your opinion on our program, so the least you can do is identify who your school is so we may opine on your school as well. It's not that hard to understand. Who is YOUR school?

I am with Steeler who is your school, you make statements about our program but you won't identify who your school is.

You give every indication of being a troll since you won't identify which school you're a fan of, but since you're respectful I'll give you my opinion on the answer to your question.

You mention the Sears cup or whatever it is. That takes EVERY sport into account. UK has an excellent rifle team. Tell me the last person attended a college rifle competition that you personally know.

We judge based on are considered to be the "major" sports. Football, mens and womens basketball, baseball, Volleyball, etc. Stuff that will actually have fans show up and will be televised.

2013 is an excellent year of saying UofL was a dominant program. Mens Basketball team won the National Championship. Womens Basketball team was National Runner up. Football team won the Sugar Bowl against #3 Florida. Mens baseball team made the College world series.

That's what we consider to be well rounded.

Right now our football team is ranked #6 with the leading heisman candidate. Mens BB is #13. Womens BB is ranked. Baseball is ranked.

That's how we rate it
