I think Satterfield needs a top level QB to know if he's the answer. Malik is more of a mid major QB. Would love to have the Milton kid at FSU.

2018, day one Malik is the same as 2021, day 1,000+ Malik. No progress. Zero development.

To be fair, it is too early in the year to make that absolute statement.

Do we see 1st half Malik or 2nd half Malik in the rest of the games?

That answer will tell the tale on his progress and development...and in some cases a player can only rise so far then he taps out to his ceiling.

You gotta ride with the horses you have...not the ones you wish you had.

Do you think Conley can do any better?

Perhaps not but, I think it’s time to find out. Nothing wrong with being willing to play both - if one guy is hot - keep him in but, at least it wouldn’t be so predictable. I don’t buy into the BS that you can / should only give one guy all the reps - particularly when no one has proven that they deserve them.

I agree. Conley should get some reps to find out one way or the other. If that affects Malik's confidence level....than he has more problems than just executing the offense.

So be it....but we won't know if its the QB or the whole offensive unit any other way. But we also don't have privy to the practices that CSS and staff have so there is that factor too. More trust in Malik than in Conley at this point in time. IDK

He can’t do much worse. Malik is a hell of an athlete. Not a good QB. We, as a fan base, know good QBs.

And if we get 2nd half and 2019 Malik play, will you acknowledge that you are mistaken about Malik?

Yes, we as a fan base have been blessed with good QB play...you are spot on about that take.

I would like to see both Conley and the JC guy both get some snaps to see what they can do in actual game situation. The EKU game should be the time for that to happen.

No. We’ve had over 3 years to evaluate. He has not progressed.

Or maybe Malik has progressed, but the program has not replaced the talent around him (Becton, Hawkins, Fitzpatrick, and Atwell) with equal talent. Football is such a team sport that it’s difficult to know for sure - but I usually find that truth is somewhere in the middle.

To be fair every school needs a good QB. You can't really win without at least a game manager level QB. For UK to have been as "successful" as they have over Stoops tenure with mediocre QB play is actually impressive. No team wins big without great QB play.

QB is the most important position but its also the one position more than any other that depends on every other member of the team having talent and doing their job for them to be successful. Lamar was a generational, once in a career level QB who elevated an entire team despite poor OLine play, poor defense and mediocre skill position players. Malik isn't Lamar. We honestly have no idea how good Malik is because he's played behind a turn stall of an OLine and now, in his senior year he has no blocking and no WRs. All we know at this point is that Malik isn't good enough to single handily elevate an offense - which we've known since Day 1. There are throws Malik should have made in that game, there are reads he should have seen - thats probably the case on every play of every game. Has Malik gotten smarter, patient or more accurate? Its hard to say until he's given a better gameplan and a better line.

This is another one of those things we took for granted, we assumed it was easy to replace a QB.

Jeff Brohm, Chris Redman, Dave Ragone, Stefan LeFors, Brian Brohm, Teddy Bridgewater, Lamar Jackson We just did so well and we assume that it’s just super easy to find these guys.

But we all forget…remember we thought Cantwell could jump right in after Brohm? Then we struggled from him through Stein. And luckily we put in Teddy against UK and the rest was history.

But do we forget that Demarcus Smith was a 4-star brought in with Teddy, imagine we don’t get Teddy and play him? But then the Gardner, Bolin, and Bonnafon before Lamar takes over for good? Puma was the easy heir apparent.

Now FSU has 2 of our QBs in their 3 deep, who may or may not be better than what we have now.

We’ve been fortunate, but it’s hard to get the right QB. With the portal open we’ll have better options, but at the same time it’ll be harder to keep guys happy.

Yeah I think honing in on one player or even one group of players is a little short sighted - there are problems just about everywhere. But that doesn't mean there can't be improvement in a lot of places, time will tell.

I agree with PushUp. I don’t think we have done a good job of replacing talent. If you look at the recruiting rankings we have done an outstanding job of recruiting. However, if you look at the play on the field it tells a different story.

Sometimes its fit in the system. Everything may have clicked perfectly in practice, but one thing that makes coaches lose their hair is when the game starts those players change...forget what they were supposed to do or try to do too much. If its Lamar Jackson, it's usually wonderful. If its 99.5% of everyone else, it tends to go south.

I don’t think 2nd half MC showed us anything to get excited about.

UM was in control of the scoreboard and simply wanted to keep us in front of them and burn clock. They didn’t have to shut us down in the 2nd half.

I thought Ole Miss for sure changed up their 2nd half identity on D so agreed it's hard to get a real feel for what the Cards did better.
