Let's be perfectly honest about this one. It was a "no contest" after about half the first quarter. Wake coach Jen Hoover displayed some of the best volatility on the sidelines I've ever seen and she also indicated in her post game remarks that Walz actually apologized to her about the refs, instead of her apologizing to him for the tantrum she threw on the sidelines near the end of the first half. For contoured feathers, steals, red-hair and the Lucy Show, continue to 10 Things About Wake vs UofL:

10) Welcome back, Ms. Durr! Everyone's favorite #25 (Nite-nite) returned to form in front of an appreciative 10139 in the Bucket yesterday with 26 points on 8-10 shooting and three threes. In just 25 minutes. She, Arica and Sam seemed to be having a lot of fun with the best seats in the house in the fourth quarter watching their teammates finish the whipping. Great to see that smile again!

9) Jen madder than a wet hen saga. Jen Hoover is a volatile kind of coach. Her blood pressure jumped about 20 points when Ariel Stephenson was called for a dubious foul on Durr during a three-pointer late in the second quarter. She imploded on the "not ready for prime time" officiating crew of Moe, Larry and Shemp...(nope, make that Mark Hardcastle, Jeffrey Smith and Linda Miles -- and more on Linda later) and eventually got "T'd" up. Durr made just one of the three free throws, maybe rightly so, on a call that was questionable. Other coaches may have headed to the liquor bar behind the visitors bench. She kept flapping her arms on the sidelines like a deranged stork dressed in black and attempting flight. Her antics came at 45-26. Louisville was up by 42 early in the fourth quarter. i don't think it fired your kids up too much, Ms. Hoover, but it was entertaining to watch.

8) They don't cost nothing, have some! The Cards also returned to their excellent free throw ways, sinking 20-23. Credit Jaz for 6-6 and those came while folks were still filing into the YUM! in the first four minutes of the game. There were 44 whistles for infractions in the contest, considerably lower than the "foul-fest" in Miami but still too many.

7) De"Penna" on you. Webster's defines "penna" as a contour feather, as distinguished from a down feather, plume, etc. We saw this particular Penna (an Italian pick up for the Deacs) prominently displayed with 20 points, 12 boards and 31 minutes of harassing the Cards in the paint. She was about the only Wake feather that could ruffle...the Cards guards outscored Wake's starting guards 52-7. Penna, a 6'3" forward -- is just a junior, so she'll be around next year to flutter over the Cards. Paulie was requesting penna with marinara sauce. I finally told him he was thinking of penne. And it's better with a white, clam sauce in my opinion. Especially if someone else is cooking it.

6) Call the authorities! Louisville had a whopping 13 steals in the contest. D&D&C led the way (Durr, Dana and Carter) with three each. I'm pretty sure that our guards were much better than theirs and this stat helps confirm that. Asia hit the post game presser with a drink. I'm thinking she stole that from one of the WFU players after the game. They also forced Wake into 22 turnovers. Quick, check your pockets or purses, everyone!

5) I'll give you one more chance. Impressive that the Cards won the 2nd chance stat 14-2. That's a hustle stat and the Cards did show a lot of energy during the game...something Walz has been wanting and working on with the team.

4) Hiya, Red! Bionca Dunham hit the floor with red hair. She also had arguably her best game of the year. Coincidence? Here's hoping she keeps the look, it's actually quite attractive on her. Paulie asked Jazmine if she'd consider going red. The giggles and laughs between her and Asia after the query pretty much indicated that's not going to happen.

3) The Lucy Show. (2018). Some of you might remember the long running sit-com with Lucille Ball. Jeff Walz youngest daughter Lucy was at the game and accompanied Coach to the post-game chat. And chat and sing she did, over-shadowing the Coach and becoming an instant media darling. I overheard two of the media representatives comment that they didn't get much out of Walz's appearance post-game -- but it was a blast because of the singing, verbose whirling dervish. She's available for speaking engagements, events and karaoke, just contact the basketball offices.

2) Don't Mess With Linda. The late Jim Croce had a song years ago about not messing with Jim. Linda Miles was in wrestling's WWE from 2002-04. Her "Big Boot" signature move was enough to win her the Tough Enough Award during her career. She went under the name "Shaniqua" .She still looks like she could toss someone over the ropes. We were all hoping she'd turn villainous on Jen during the technical foul escapade, bounce her off the turnbuckle and send her into Sean Moth's lap. Can we get a caged match here?

1) That's gonna hurt. It was the worst loss of the year for the Demon Deacs, by far. A team that took both FSU and UNC to bonus ball before losing. Boston College is next for the forest dwellers. WFU has never beaten Cards WBB lifetime. Louisville football fell to Wake Forest earlier in the year and the guys hoops handled the Deacs Saturday, so it's up to baseball to keep the win streak alive. Wake Forest doesn't play softball...surprising. Maybe they're afraid they'll lose too many balls in the woods...which is a perfect description of my futile attempts at golf.
