Just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on who they think will be the starters for next season. I have it as this but I didn’t put a ton of thought into it. Was just curious on what everyone else thinks.
QB: Micale
RB: Hawkins
HB: Ford
WR: Tutu
WR: Dez
WR: Marshall
TE: ?
OL: Bentley
OL: Boone
OL: Reid
OL: Chandler
OL: Bell

DL: Yaya
DL: Peterson
DL: Kinnaird
DL: Goldwire
LB: Dorian
LB: Avery
Card: Burns
CB: Johnson
CB: Jones
S: Yeast
S: Troutman?

Tight End is another position where the lack of balanced recruiting is amazing. As much as Petrino used to use the TE you’d think there’d be a few guys. But we only had a grad transfer (Pfeiffer) and a RS Senior (Davis). Thankful that Marshon Ford was such a great find since it gave us someone who could catch the ball as a HB/TE.

The defensive line is where I expect a lot more competition. I think we may see a few more GTs on that side of the ball. I think Brown knows he needs to motivate them to get it right and perform for 12 games consistently.

Isn’t Dorian Ethridge going to be a Senior next season.

I also expect K Brock Travelstead, DE Zach Edwards, LBs Kam Wilson and Marvin Dallas, WR Braden Smith, and possibly TE Desmond Daniels to play early. DBs Jamel Starks and Jamie Vance might also get onto the depth chart at some point next year.

Super excited seeing this list and thinking about next year after seeing the way we just finished up this season. Was listening to Maybin on Tuesday afternoon and he had a guy on and they were discussing this team for next year. They brought up the fact that we actually have 3 potential Heisman candidates next year in Hawkins, Atwel, and Cunningham. Exciting time to be a Cards fan.

No Boykin in your 2 deep. Write it down, he will be the most disruptive end we've had in some time. His motor is relentless. Defensive coordinators will have to game plan around him. I didn't see anyone on our d- line last season that will start over him. Pencil him in as starter , unless Satt wants to bring chaos off the bench. Also Henry Bryant will never be a 315 pound d- tackle but dude is extremely fast, crafty. And just finds a way to get in the backfield. I'm excited about the newcomers red shirt and true freshmen.these are the blocks that we will build our foundation with. Satt gets football players man. No premadonna' s. No ego's his type of player lives with a permanent chip on his shoulder. They work their ass off, earn everything and don't need you to motivate them. That's why App. St is who they are. We will have app.st' s determination, with overall ACC talent. And program wide goals.

I have no doubt you can build a really good team with a high percentage of the roster being 3 stars. There are plenty of kids that are really good but don’t have meet the criteria to be a 4 or 5 star. Staffs should never chase any kid if they don’t fit their program. Every staff has to identify players that fit their scheme and identity. There is real discipline in sticking with your plan.

Smart at UGA pretty said he has a problem at UGA.....his highly ranked kids/parents think they are better than they which makes coaching miserable.

I like their 1st class. They are going to have to play early. I think they will push you he current players.

I completely forgot about Boykin. He’ll more then likely start he’s gonna be a monster.

Boykin has potential. I'm not sure if he can unseat a current starter, but he's on campus now, so he has a chance to get in the weight room, shake off the dust of being inactive for a year, and work on his timing and get back into football shape this Spring. He along with all of the early enrollee's have a shot to play early.

This is probably pretty close. I would throw Zay Peterson somewhere in the safety rotation. That dude is going to bring a new attitude to the defensive backfield. Throws caution to the wind and lays the law.

The Oline could be better as a group mainly due to more experience with the scheme. No one will be better individually than Becton. Boone held his own when he played and will get better. Can Brown, Reid or Williamson be better than Haycraft?

I would love for them to move Robbins over to defense based off comments from people that watched him as a running back in high school. He will make it on the field on special teams.

Not really worried about offense.

Defense I think it is wide open. A lot of freshman are going to see time.

I think you can book Reid is going to be better then Haycraft. Haycraft played very well this season for sure but there’s a reason he was a walk on who just got put on scholarship. Reid is a juco all American he’ll be an impact guy.

I was actually of the opposite opinion regarding Haycraft’s replacement.... That he was going to be a major question mark until proven otherwise. Junior college competition is nowhere near the same as what he’ll face at Clemson, or going against Syracuse in the dome or Notre Dame at the feet of Touchdown Jesus.

PU - who is Chris Nuckols? Is he a walk on?

And I thought Tresean Smith was gone? or maybe not.

I would think if Smith was gone he would have entered the transfer portal one reason could be he completely bombed school and isn’t eligible at all academically or gave up football.

I think you are right. I’m counting him as walk-on currently. I will post an update listing the players that I believe are non-scholarship.

I really like this thread. It gives us all a really good idea of where we should be going into spring practice. The only question I have is are we giving enough credit to how much impact our recruits will have on this team for next season. We should learn more thru spring practice. For sure our lack of depth creates a situation where injuries could have a major impact. I also question as to where Puma Pass should be on the depth chart. He just might find himself 4th behind Tee Webb but of course we’ll just have to wait on that situation. Some really very knowledgeable folks contributing here and I appreciate thaat.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

I think Peterson projects at one of the 4 LB spots. We do have 3 secondary recruits in for spring (Lowery, Jenkins, and Starks), plus a newly added walk-on ( Drumgole).

Ford was a pretty highly rated JC player who joined the program last summer but never saw the field for us.

Pushup that's a great visual to look at. I'm always trying to figure out next years roster and who could potentially nab some playing time. Another thought, I've heard Coach Satt mention more than once that Puryear was projected to play on the Defensive Line. Unfortunately, the games he played this season, I never saw the kid on the field so I can't confirm. Looks like the trend is to recruit guys who can either grow into a DE position or stocks them at LB from what I've gathered.

Great list by the way!

Another idea, as I sit in my arm chair quarterback lazy boy. Robert Hicks seems like an ideal candidate to play inside linebacker. He has the size. Monty Montgomery seems perfect for the Card position, and Rodjay Burns looks perfectly ideal for Strong Safety.

But don't get it twisted. Coach Brown has forgotten more football than I know.

Thx Push. Out of all this - what positions do you point to for keys to improving?

I have heard from at least one person that Hicks is now a defensive lineman, but the roster at gocards.com lists him at ILB, so that’s where I have him now until we learn otherwise.

In creating the depth chart, I usually go by the last published one, and then fill in any holes with players who are currently on campus. That’s why you don’t see Yaya Diaby or Trevor Reid on my depth chart yet, although we hope when they come in that they are immediate impact players.

They moved Hicks to defensive line, which he tried a few days an announced a transfer. Last year he played OLB and that's where he was listed. If he's moved inside, great move by the coaches. That's where he needs to be.

I think he should make the move to DE. he could make a lot of money as a pass rusher being his size and a little on the slow side for LB.

The short answer would be offensive and defensive lines, but ...

I think the great news for this season is that, instead of the coaches having to teach every player their system, you now not only have the coaches but about 35 players returning with depth chart experience who can also teach the younger returning players as well as the newcomers. So as long as the veteran players recognize and embrace that teaching responsibility, we should see improved depth across the board.

I don’t expect us to be an outstanding defense until our defensive front can consistently push the line of scrimmage a yard or two back towards the opponent’s goal line. Hopefully the 5 upperclassmen in the defensive front (Goldwire, Clark, Peterson, Dorsey and Kinnaird) can make some strength gains and give us a push next year. And as you might expect, Dumervil-Jean would be great at resetting the line of scrimmage if he can get in shape.

The OL must get much better at preventing sacks, TFLs, and penalties, and there were a few games (Miami, FSU, Clemson, and UK) where our opponent had great success resetting the LOS against us. Hopefully the 4 returning OL and our QB have a much better understanding of Ledford’s system.
