That was a done deal when he signed with Drake brand a sub company of Nike . Unless some U of L boosters where going to waste millions on a kid nothing KP could have really done.
Nike gets to really flex what they have done for decades addidias will get a few here and their but Nike schools will always have the advantage these kids just love any and everything about that brand.

This report is welcomed news, as it explains clearly why Wagner was never a serious candidate for UL. As others have already stated, Nike is a powerful financial influence in many circles, and the recruitment of DJ was never about Calipari, Payne or for that matter either UK a or UL …….. it was always about the highest bidder. Nike will win most every time.
I will say this, as I thought that it was quite possible that he would select another Nike school other than UK, only as a way to appease his grandfather.

Why would he even consider UofL? He has no loyalty to the program at all and sees that the Cardinals haven't won a NCAA tournament game during his entire high school career.
I never for a second thought he would spend his one and only college season here. It wouldn't make any sense for him to do so.

our AD posted it doesn't matter if they sign with a competitor of adidas, they can pimp whatever products they wants as long as not in offical u of l gear. so signing with nike doesn't rule him out coming here. maybe it's jsut a ruse on his part, give all indications of going to sucky then drop the bomb and come here.
Never thought he was coming here. I think he put UofL on the mythical list outta respect for Milt and Kenny. But he never pulled their chain or ours by saying or doing anything to make anyone think he was coming here.

yes because the past does not give us new titles or championships. btw, where is the banner that shows we won a title in 2013? where's the proof we won? is it acknowledged anywhere except finding the game on you tube? looking back is always done with rose colored glasses. seems to me that looking back to our last title caused us national humiliation by being the first school to have it's title stripped. national humiliation because we needed strippers to get the players we needed to win the title that got vacated. lookign back shows me a horribel coach who cheating on his wife, treated players bad in the media, and let the program get on probation. so yeah, keep looking to the past where we failed, got put on probation, and now are predicted to be at the bottom because we cheated, got caught and we once a top 5 school where now no good coaches even want to consider coming here. we had to take a risk on someone with no coaching experience. so that past has gotten us to where we don't expect to be in the tourney again. how many years is have we failed to make the toruney in the last decade? so yeah, keep looking back at our failures and dream that we can go back there. take the blinders off

I hate Duke but I understand top recruits going there. Why these top rated recruits continue to go to UK who has the worst Hall of Fame coach in college hoops history, does perplex me.
For as many NBA stars that went to UK there's more HS stars who trusted Cal and have been busts. There is just one reason these top rated recruits choose UK and it isn't winning championships or the beautiful countryside, it's this illusion that Cal is some kind of NBA guru.
And that's the sell that works for the snake oil salesman. It is what it is hate to say ! These kids live in a microwave society now. They don't want to hear what you can do for them down the road. They want the quickest and easy route to the bag. And Calimari just lucky with these one and done types. He hasn't developed not one of them . Most of them would be drafted at any other school as well. Now to be honest the UK brand helps their exposure also. Because the national media praise them as a Blue Blood every chance they get.
An example that we cannot compete with is that kid who sat the bench didn't dribble on the court not one ball. Was drafted and guess what Calimari gets credit for another NBA player SMH. These kids don't see nor care. All they know and hear Cal got me drafted whatever!
This right here sums it all up. And after reading this article i think Pervis is one of the guys KP had referred to as surprising him.
