With the song Furthest Thing by Drake playing in the background, Virginia basketball player Ty Jerome revealed Monday on Instagram that he will pass up his final season of college eligibility and turn professional.

"I know it's the right time to announce this now," said Jerome in an interview with Sports Illustrated's on-line department.

In the same interview, Jerome predicted that his UVa teammate, De'Andre Hunter, would be next year's NBA rookie of the year. That became a possibility when Hunter announced shortly before 4 p.m. that he would make himself available for the 2020 NBA Draft.

GOOD! I'm glad they won the championship, but equally glad to see those two dudes move on.

Did anyone else notice when we played UVA that Huff looked like a beast, but hardly played against most other teams? I get that both of our bigs stretch out and hit 3's, but we aren't the only team playing a stretch 5. Huff friggin killed us this year and I think he's only a freshman.......he will be hte next UVA player that will seem to be there 8 damn years!

Glad they are moving on too, though Guy will still be there. It appears Bennett will probably just reload pieces back into his system though so hopefully Mack can find a way to beat them.

Hunter was the difference in this UVA team and the past 4-5 years. Top notch talent that score at all 3 levels and can also defend 3-4 positions. Not so easy to replace to that!

Aboslutely, they lost him 2 days before the game. Made a pretty big difference I say.......

No need for excuses. They can simply point to redemption now. From laughing stock to national champions.
Sometimes one injury can lead to a bad loss....but then redemption can motivate them into coming back stronger.

Everyone on this forum says that Preston Knowles injury cost you guys a game against Morehead State in 2011. Not a 16 seed and not a national embarrassment....but still a loss you guys shouldn't have taken.

But what did Rick do with that loss.....those guys came back and went to a final 4....then the next year won a title. Losses happen...bad losses happen too...it's basketball and no coach nor top team is safe on any given night in a winner-takes-all tournament.

Let's not forget...the GOAT Coach K lost to Mercer....came back the next year and won a title.

People were defending Uva before they won the title. The championship this year isn't an excuse for losing to a 16 seed last year. I'm not arguing that Bennett should have been fired or anything just that the response would have been much different on here if it was a UofL coach. Pitino got more criticism for losing to Morehead st. and it didn't matter that Knowles got hurt in the game than Bennett for for losing to a 16 seed. Its funny how more understanding people are when its not their team.

Also it's about expectations....

Louisville is a top program. Denny Crum was the coach before Rick and he had won 2 championships. Bennett was the first coach to get UVA to a Final Four in 30+ years. UVA wasn't sniffing 1 seeds and top 5 rankings before he got to Charlottesville. Rick also was the highest paid coach at the time.

Louisville should have higher expectations than a Virginia...but because of Bennett....he raised those expectations.

Not denying we are a better historical progam than Uva or anything about Bennett raising the profile of that program but does us having more history mean our 1 seeds are better than theirs?

I was talking about our fans giving Bennett as pass unlike they would have given a UofL coach. I'm sure that Uva fans weren't happy about the loss but he is still the best coach that program ever had.

What are you talking about? Almost everyone has given Mack a pass until he gets “his” team. Me, I’m just wondering why he’s lost to lower seeds his last two NCAAT appearances.

Make it 2 out of 3. The 2016-17 team was an 11 seed who beat 6th seed Maryland, 3rd seed FSU and 2nd seed Arizona before falling to 1 seed Gonzaga.
I think you are referring to the 2016 team that lost to Wisconsin as a 2 seed. I can't help you on the particulars of that loss.

Nope just talking about the last 2 NCAAT appearances with Mack as HC of a higher seed losing to a lower seed. What you’re referring to is a Xavier team in 2017 who finished 9-9 and finished 7th out of 10 teams in the BE regular season. Yes they were an 11th seed that went on to upset the teams you mentioned, but that seems to happen every year by somebody. That made Mack a hot commodity. Now he needs to perform at that level consistently.
