Van Lith Named to ALL ACC preseason team

I’m surprised Olivia Cochran is not getting any pub…. Averaged almost 10 points snd almost 7 rebounds as a freshman. I expect her to take a leap I’m numbers as well.

I am interested to see if our 6’5” FR Sydni gets much clock. With a strong volleyball background I suspect she can get off her feet quickly (like Kylee) and really affect shots. Also, she isn’t super skinny (Ramani is fairly thin). Just meaning, she should be able to hold her own in the paint. In end, CJW has solid options.

I think that getting much help from Sydni is very problematic. She is just a freshman and even Kylee was very little help her freshman year. Still, I really am not concerned about the post position.. If either Olivia or Liz Dixon had played the minutes that 6'5" Elissa Cuhane (the projected player of the year in the ACC) played last year, each would theoretically have had similar stats with far more blocked shots. Moreover, the addition of Emily Engstler, will make rebounding a real strength of this team.

I honestly believe this roster will provide Walz and his Ladies with the very best opportunity to win a NC this coming season; and I say this based on the point Sonya made in this thread about our “Post play”. We have been vulnerable to opponents with tall ”go to“ inside players, that resulted in giving up too many easy points in the paint. For the first time in my memory we will have both size and experience to defend, rebound and score inside. I expect there will be times when Jeff will employ Liz, Olivia and Ramani on the floor at the same time to neutralize those teams that depend on interior power. Depth like this allows for various combinations that we have not enjoyed in past seasons.
