Van Lith Leaving UofL

I am not sure she already has multiple deals. I am sure it is part of it but I think it is telling us she didn’t think Louisville could win a title. Sounds like she has her spot picked. It will be a title contender.

There really is no spinning it she didn’t believe in her coach. Actions speak louder than words. That is how she feels. Tough being a coach in this new world.

Over-rated didn't live up to the hype. Struggled in many games.

Saddened by this news but it appears to be the new norm. Rumors saying HVL wants to go to a strong championship contender team for her senior year.
At 5'7" what championship contender is going to give her the offensive freedom that Coach Walz gave her? Will she be willing to accept a different role for that ring?

All good questions but it could also be a massive NIL deal that she couldn't pass up. I think seeing where she ends up will be quite telling.

One of the other boards is saying she brought most of her NIL money from HS. It will be interesting to see where she winds up. Closer to home, like Standford or some other place.

Wish HVL the best wherever she ends up.
Wasn't she already on a strong, championship contender team? This is very telling that maybe Walz just has too many spots to fill and HVL doesn't think it's going to work out in 2023/24?

I always liked her, mostly due to her fierce competitiveness, but it would be very sweet for Cards fans if her new team loses in the second round while the Cards make another elite 8. Loyalty is missing these days.

We discussed this on another site I don’t think it is about money. She has a deal here with Adidas, Dick’s Sporting Goods and JC Penney’s where she makes a million a year. Then she makes $44,000 through social media rights, money is not the issue.

That is not true they didn’t even have NIL when she came here from high school. I remember her freshmen year when the Kentucky State Legislature had to approve NIL for athletes in Kentucky. She sent out a thank you to Kentucky for approving NIL in the Commonwealth.

Stanford is taking some heavy losses in personnel this year so I don’t think it will be Stanford. I just hope it’s not Notre Dame or some other school in our conference. I could see her wanting to go closer to home but what title contender is out west? The time zone west of the Mississippi is a negative if you want exposure.

A Masters Degree from either Stanford or ND is quite a resume enhancement should she choose to go that route.

If a NC is her goal, I stick with what I said on other forum, Iowa or LSU. IMO she would find Geno too restrictive.

By the way the state of Washington didn’t allow high school athletes to receive NIL money until 2022. HVL was a sophomore at Louisville by then.

If its about being closer to home it's Stanford.

If its about winning a championship, it's Iowa.

She isn’t going anywhere where she can’t compete for a title. She is way to competitive to play with average players or on an average team.

LSU makes sense she fits that coaches intensity. Here is the thing Hailey has to fit in. She brings a lot of attitude into a locker room. She won’t be the alpha at either LSU or Iowa or Notre Dame.

I can’t see her at LSU as far as ND is concerned they won’t win a title with Ivey as coach. Iowa makes the most since. If Iowa can get Van Lith and Betts they have a legit shot at a title.

It would be difficult to share the ball with Caitlin Clark who will be a Sr and is very ball dominant.
If that’s where HVL ends up and they make it work then watch out!

Clark shared the ball a lot she had a of assist this past year. She also got her shots in if Iowa could pull this off it would make them the front runner for the title.

HVL = UofL grad, busted her ass on and off the court while she was here. Going to root for her wherever she goes (except when she gets beat in the NCAAT next year by the Cards) next year and for the rest of her life.

With her hard work, she’s earned both her degree and the right to do whatever she wants with her last year of eligibility.

Won’t lie, I wish she had chosen to stay at UofL.

Don’t have any sources but Iowa would be my prediction.

Per the Iowa message board, they don’t have any scholarships available for next year. But of course, Hailey has plenty of NIL backing and won’t need a scholarship to play wherever she wants to go.

I’m pretty agnostic on HVL going forward. I don’t wish her any ill will, but except for what other posters drag into this space, I won’t be following her career. For that matter, I don’t much follow the careers of ex-players who exhaust their eligibility here.

When it starts to become about individual play and earning money, my interest declines quickly. It’s a big reason why college sports has always been my focus and not the pros. I want almost nothing to do with pro sports.

I hope Jeff Walz looks at the big picture and how much fans like me value his services. I honestly don’t care if he never makes another Final Four as long as we remain competitive with the best players he can recruit for his system and with the disadvantages he has…

I agree with everything you just posted 100%. I was one of HVL’s biggest fans and always defended her when posters had negative things to say about her. I wish her all the luck in the world but I will not be following her career once she is gone. I don’t watch any pro sports at all and never will. The only time I keep up with former athletes is when articles about them are posted locally through the CJ or through Card nation.

Ever since NIL and transfers the job itself is becoming extremely difficult. They can’t control who stays or goes. It really becomes about building a roster that is as close to plug and play as you can get. Louisville women is a top 5 program and they aren’t immune to this player movement.

I still think Louisville needs a analytics department to identify players that fit their systems. The data is out there on players offensive and defensive efficiency and their NIL value. Identifying players that have team value that matching NIL value is the future.

They need to be transparent with the fan base this is what our we need NIL wise to be competitive. Fans can decide if they want to join a collective.

I haven’t join the 502 and may not because I am not comfortable with the pay for play model. I won’t complain about recruiting either.

It's a crossroad and who knows what happens. CFB seems to remain popular but survival for other sports feels much less certain.

I certainly appreciate HVL's contributions here but UofL is bigger, much bigger than her or any other athlete, male or female. We will be just fine going forward.

GO CARDS!!!

Being ”ball dominant“ has nothing to do with assists

Clark averaged 9 assists per game this past year that’s a lot.
Yes I agree that she passes the ball and does it well, Being “ball dominant“ doesn’t mean she takes all of the shots. In order for her to average that many points and assists she has the ball in her hands a majority of the time. If HVL ends up there she’ll play more off of the ball than a UofL but if they make it workout then they will have a outstanding chance to win the championship

Make sense and basically kills the wants to play close to home narrative. This was a $$$ decision while putting her on the best team. Hard to blame anyone but the women’s professional pay is nothing so they have to get it while they can.
