I actually believe this hurts us a bit. VT will get an invite because of it’s signature wins against No.1 Virginia and No.5 Duke. We have no such wins. However we could have had a better ACC conference record if we finished higher in the conference than VT as a result of us sweeping them. Now that only comes into play if we tie, but doesn’t matter now because they’ve earned an automatic. Tech was one of the teams we were in contention for a spot in the dance.definitely helps our cause in that our win there looks much better after they beat duke. that whole quad 1 wins or whatever
It will hurt us especially if we lose the last 2 games. If we WIN the last 2 games, then we're in regardless.I actually believe this hurts us a bit. I think we can shoot well from behind the arc IF the right people are taking the shots off the pass. If we have shooters trying to create their own shots and shooting 3's, then no they won't shoot a high percentage behind the arc. They must be ready to catch and shoot without hesitation. The defense has to be careful not to overplay the passing lanes. UVA is very good at creating space by going backdoor then making the extra pass for wide open shots. They get you chasing if you over play the passing lanes. We have to stay between the goal and the offensive man on defense to have a chance by using the team length to disrupt their shooting rhythm.I don't think we can play like we did against VT and hope to win. Virginia plays much better defense and we are not going to have a big day like that from 3 point land. We must play tough physical defense.
Virginia does a good job of taking away those open shots and they have a lot of discipline on defense. I think the keys are we must score in the paint and then force them to sag and then get the open 3 point looks. We do not have the quickness to consistently get open against a good defensive team. We must force them to be softer on the perimeter with interior scoring.I think we can shoot well from behind the arc IF the right people are taking the shots off the pass. Oh and we MUST rebound and cherish the ball. Cannot turn the ball over.
Yep which means Spalding will need to play well. He's by far our best big. Williams will need to fall out of love with the parameter and battle inside, and Sutton needs to bring his toughness to the floor too. Anas scares me in this one because he plays so soft. Maybe he won't Thursday night since it's senior night.Virginia does a good job of taking away those open shots and they have a lot of discipline on defense. Sure it helps us technically but if you’re counting spots up for grab, VT just got one. We need to get ours.Their win, combined with UofL's 2 wins over VT, does help our RPI and SOS though.
