FB RECRUITING: USC QB Miller Moss Commits To Cards

This will be a bidding war. Auburn is going to throw a boatload at a QB. He does fit Freeze offense. They have a ton of talent. That is where I think he ends up.

I am not so sure of Auburn, as Moss expresses a desire to play for a conference champion and I am afraid the SEC has already started moving past Auburn.

Texas, Alabama, UGA and LSU are purportedly investing enough money in the NIL to distance themselves from the rest of the conference. TX A&M, Oklahoma and Arkansas are expected to be right behind those aforementioned.

I agree to an extent, but it is hard to deny the $$$ plus being surrounded by those athletes while playing in SEC. Keep in mind these elite guy believe they can play anywhere.

Now of the flip side playing for Brohm in an easier conference with hopefully a loaded skill group and a returning Oline is extremely good selling point.

Impossible to predict the portal but this offense especially if the Oline returns basically intact has the potential to be ridiculous.

We don't have a returning OL or at least not much of one. Mendoza, Brown, Cutler, Miller, Gonzalez are seniors. A few of them 5th year seniors. Sanker left (hopefully not a big loss but he was highest rated OL in a while). Nygra and Collins remain.

Well, those 3 are a good base. Get 3 portal guys, and hopefully you have 3-4 young players that you are developing. That gets you to the magic Number of 10. That is what you need going into the season. 8 to 10 OLine players that you feel can play quality snaps for a season. Who do we have that are currently Frosh, both True and Red shirt, and Sophs. Those are the ones that we will need to fill the gaps. Jeff will easily get 3-4 portal guys. And he knows and understands what it takes the play at the Power four level!

That's a weird list.

It's flattering to be on it though.

This kid carved us up in the Holiday Bowl. If that's the kid we'd be getting, it's a no brainer. But what happened since our bowl game to have him hitting the portal? Admittedly, I have paid zero attention to him this past year.

Brohm has done well finding his QB each of the past two years. I trust him to do this again.

There is talk Brown may get another year not sure how that is possible.

Mills is a Jr.
Sylvester is a Jr. play a lot late.
Collins Jr
Nygra Jr
Robinson coming off injury.

Add a few portal guys it is a good line.

The local talking heads are hinting it will be the Cal QB.

Fernando Mendoza, 6'5. 3,000 yard passer 16 TD's.

Thing about him, he has more than one season of eligibility remaining. Brohm may be trying to stop the one and done QB transfer?

6'5" .... that tracks.

I watched him a bunch this year. He's mobile too. This would be a nice pick up.

I think the QB market will be wild. It is one position that teams have to get right and it is a hard one for some coaches to properly evaluate.

Man I hope it isn’t the Texas A&M QB but Louisville is on his list. He has all the tools but not sold on his ability to process things.

I trust Brohm.

What's your knock on Weigman? He was a highly rated 5 star QB. Had some injuries but so did Slough.

My main issue is he was benched. He was wildly inconsistent. In fairness to him it was a new offense that is more RPO and QB runs. Then you throw in really good defenses.

I like all the physical tools but really don’t like taking a guy that was benched. Now he maybe the guy that is like a really good shirt on the discount rack that has a small hole. Easy to fix. The price may be right.

Like I said I trust Brohm.

I am trying to be objective here, but honestly I cannot think of any HC in college football right now that has more respect than Jeff Brohm in developing a QB. I am not talking about the Lamar Jackson’s who are so athletic and talented that require little or any coaching; I am referring to those like Tyler Shough who have the tools to be effective, but require experienced tudoring.

Well, Brohm did take Plummer after benching him at Purdue.

I think there's several guys out there better than Moss. I think the dude at California, Fernando Mendoza would be a home run pick.

If he wasn't bench, he probably wouldn't be in the portal.... There is a reason for why guys go into the portal. Some valid, some underachieved, etc.

Brohm got here late and the QB pool as well as majority of good players was dried up. He knew Plummer was well versed in the offense.

What about the guy at Oklahoma. Sure, he has the stink of OU on him, but that washes off.
Jackson Arnold, 5 star recruit with good numbers. 1,421 yards passing, 12 TDs and 3 ints. He was sacked 34 times this season, which is the sixth-most among FBS quarterbacks. Interesting note, after Arnold replaced FR Hawkins in a game which OU lost, HC Venables fired their OC, Seth Littrell.

Most the these guys are going to have warts. Arnold did have to deal with a bad OLine and losing basically all his receivers. Legit arm and legs. I would prefer him over Weigman.

If the Cal QB enters that will be the one to watch.

Don't like the idea he's Brohm's top QB target. That tells me the dude at Cal, Fernando Mendoza, isn't considering Louisville.

I have been watching tape of Moss and I just don't see what the big deal is about him. Of course he was Tom Brady against Louisville last season, but I haven't seen much of that this season.

I tend not to worry about Brohm’s evaluation process. This is going to boil down to dollars $$$. There are so many dollars to throw around. They have major holes on defense.

They got a bargain in Shough. They won’t get a bargain here. The reality is Moss is ranked one of the better QB’s in the market place. The Cal kid won’t be cheap either.

I trust Brohm so much I wouldn’t object to them going cheap on QB, if that meant they could go big on defense. However the defensive market place may not be good. The really good SEC players just leverage the hell out of other SEC teams. That usually means Louisville has to go down to Power 5 or lower Power 4 level on defense which is cheaper. We are kind of seeing it play out with defensive guys from WKU, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina. Starters at Power 4 are already making good money. Players at the Power 4 that produce come at a steep
price. Highly ranked kids that didn’t play come at a price and significant risk. Bottom line they have to thread a needle defensively.

I have zero worries about Brohm’s selection of his transfer QB. I had little interest in this upcoming Bowl game leading up to Shough’s decision to opt out; but now I look forward to seeing just who gets the most snaps in the practices and the actual Bowl Game.

I agree. The bowl game means little except now who will be starting at QB. I think it has to be Clarkson and that's why he hasn't entered the portal.

I doubt we see any QB commit to Louisville until after the bowl game, even though that is risky. If Brohm doesn't want a shorter QB like Clarkson, I believe the redshirt freshman would already have declared for the portal.

But I could be wrong any day now. I'm not so much worried about who Brohm gets, but more about who I would prefer he get. The dude at Cal, Mendoza is the best I've seen, but he may not be interested?

Sorry, I just couldn't let this pass. We are suppose to trust what you have seen? Do you live in Calif. Have you watched all his games? I would bet Brohm or someone on staff has seen more tape of every possble QB transfer than what you have seen. Sorry! It also goes without saying that I trust Brohm, who has made 2 good if not great decisions on who to QB our team but yet you pretend to know more about this guy. Also just for the record, if size of the QB was the only deciding factor for QB, I don't believe Clarkson would still be here. You are also wrong about the only important thing in the bowl game is the QB play. Its way behind what our OL, DL and secondary will look like next year. Nothing personal but you're way off on this one.

The Cal QB is good but he has his warts like them all. It really boils down to who they put around the QB. The Oline is key. I have seen maybe 1-2 QB (Teddy and Lamar) who were good behind a bad line. USC line wasn’t good this year plus they played a good schedule. You keep Moss protected I like him. The Cal QB is probably better with a leaky line because he is mobile.

Whatever Brohm decides I am good with it.

1000% wrong on a QB committing until bowl game. We play on 12/31. Portal closes on 12/28 and classes start 1/8. If that happens, we are in deep shit, unless Pierce, Deuce, or Mims is the answer. Staff doesnt seem to think thats the case!

Relax; if there is any single position that we need not worry about; it’s QB, as “Jeff’s got this”! I saw what Jeff accomplished at WKU & again at Purdue without the benefit of having superstar quarterback candidates.

There is a 2nd post spring portal for football that runs from April 16-25th.

The QB portal is insane. There are more QB’s in the portal than there are starting spots. It is crazy many are jumping in the portal to get paid to be a back up. There are a ton of option and frankly more could be coming.

FSU-boy I know don’t like their pick up. I know he fits their scheme but he is an average passer. Plus he gets banged up and runs to avoid big hits. It may work but man coming off a year like that hitching your job to him is an interesting choice. They went bargain shopping. Gus M isn’t a QB guru either.

I'm not asking you or anyone else to trust anything I say. I'm just giving an opinion that may be wrong or right. Why this need to act like I believe I know more than Brohm? Of course I don't. If Brohm came out and said he loves Moss and wants him more than anybody, I would say okay, let's go do it.

I don't pretend to know more than anyone. I'm just a football fan who watches a lot of games and seen many of these dudes play. I just convey my thoughts here on the message board to create conversation, but some here for some strange reason act like I think my opinions shouldn't be countered and that is simply not the case.

I like the dude Mendoza at California and it's not because I live there or even seen all his games. I have been more impressed with him than any other name mentioned but he may not be interested in Louisville? I don't know. I just don't get why you feel the need to tell a fellow Cards fan he's wrong about his opinion on any players considering transferring to Louisville. You can be just a wrong!
