UPDATE: Pitino says his defense will drastically change
With just one game left in the regular season, Rick Pitino threw a Wild Card onto the table during Friday's pregame press conference. Pitino says he's changing his famous matchup zone.
Pitino explained that he believes the zone's complexity is just too much for this year's team, and he'd like to change it to simplify it for this year's team.
Pitino said he will "dumb it down" and have his players reacting more and thinking less. He said they have been averaging about 25 or 26 deflections per game and that number needs to be up in the 30s at least.
Pitino said Quentin Snider's defense is what it is, and his teammates have to take up the slack for him. He said it isn't Quentin's fault because he wasn't supposed to be in this position. Pitino said Quentin should be still watching Chris Joens and playing sparingly, but instead he's thrust into the spotlight.
