Top 10 baseball program, tennis team is rolling, womens BB final four, Heisman trophy winning and multiple BCS bowls football team with a 6'6 monster taking over at QB, and the Mack Attack coming in at basketball. I know I left something out.

Let all that sink in. We are not a one trick pony....

They will never keep us down.

Go cards!

So true. We are not a one trick pony, and most of the reason why? Former Athletic Director Tom Jurich. It was HIS vision that got us to where we are. Nobody can take that away from him.

Yep. Tom was the single greatest thing to ever happen at UofL.

The thing I liked the most about Tom Jurich was his approach to the non-revenue sports. The entire athletic department became Title 9 compliant across the board. Not many other athletic departments could boast that accomplishment.

That's true but not only Pitino. He trusted and protected all his coaches. That's why so many coaches wanted to work for him.

Cue, I was a Corporate Trainer of management trainees and a supervisor (banking), and a Staff Sergeant in The Kentucky Army National Guard. I trusted all the men and women that worked for me. But as a leader you can be a friend to them, but you can never become thier buddies or peer. Your job is to train, lead and accomplice the organizations mission and goals. You can never forget your position requires your oversight. You cannot expect to remain a Vice President or Staff Sergeant if you fail at your mission of oversight. I know of what I speak. I am now successfully retired from both careers. While you trust people, you always have to keep you eyes open and your ears listening. Very often leadership rolls can be lonely. You can never worry about being popular. You have to be respected because you lead by example. Not maintaining oversight burnt Ramsey, Jurich and Pitino. In summary, "the buck stops on the leader's desk". Failure gets you fired in the civilian world, and reduced in rank or court-martialed in the military world.

Very well stated!

Wilkie - that was a great post and that recipe was ideal for our generation. I’m 60. The kids have changed, attitudes have changed and what worked for us may not work now. Youth does not respect titles and position. You have to prove yourself day in and day out to keep what little respect they offer.

Jurich's only mistake was he trusted and protected Pitino.
Loved Jurich’s tenure. We need to erect a statue of him. But, IMO he made a few more mistakes:

Kragthore
Making Kragthorpe take Brohm
And, possibly entering into The Yum Center agreement.

Oh, I put a boot up thier soldiers ass or gave them article 15s Still works today in the Army. At the bank, it goes like this;
1) oral warning
2} written warning
3) Probation
4) Termination

Either place it was still over sight. Homie never play those games. I always told the punk that challenged me a pen and Article 15 DOD Form (Army) or Correction of job performance form (bank). I said see this pen it will whip you into compliance or make you gone. The choice is your to go or stay. If you choose to stay I will mentor you into success. Refuse and I will make you gone. It is still oversight and works if the administrator follow the organization's rules and federal labor laws. When you are in-charge be in charge, because that is what you are paid to do!

Sadly I’ve seen this in my professional career where someone will elect to promote or bring someone on to later find out their not a good fit or flat don’t workout. The individual that hired them refuse to see it and/or are so loyal they refuse to handle the situation. In the end they end up taking themselves out or at the very least lose credibility.

The later I believe was TJ he just became to loyal and refused to see the issue. But to be fair he was never given the opportunity to handle the Adidas deal.
