Mark Stoops, Kentucky coach: A promising 4-2 in Lexington (entering Saturday) after going 7-17 in his first two seasons. Stoops left a job as Florida State’s defensive coordinator, where he had been since 2009, to coach UK. Would the 48-year-old return to Coral Gables, where he was defensive backs coach under Larry Coker from 2001-03? A person close to Stoops said he still has property in the area and would likely consider the job if offered. One of the better South Florida recruiters on this list. Would UM, which pays Golden $2.54 million per year, pay him at least the $3.25 million he makes at Kentucky?

I don't think that they would want him, but he'd take that job without hesitation if offered.

There's a Miami booster that has been salivating over him, the past year
and a half.

He could fall into UMs lap if all others turn them down

Stoops has probably had his agent make a call. He would be crazy not to. There is zero interest in / zero understanding of football in Lexington. I doubt Stoops stays after this season. Too many good jobs are open for him to remain at UK.

Last coach to leave UK without being fired? Guy Morris to Baylor. For a coach from Kentucky to be considered for the job at Miami shows how desperate they are.

Miami fan base would not react well to Jeff Brohm.
Not a big enough name for them you think?

After Larry Coker, Randy Shannon and Al Golden that might be true although Jeff is going to be in line for a job with a quality program.

Would hate to see that happen to Miami on top of what they've been through.

I'm also concerned that if they keep going back to the well, LPT may someday accidentally hire a good football coach.

No better or worse than what happened with our current football coach with the Falcons...
Might be true, but then again, UofL isn't located in Atlanta.I could see how Shiano might not be all that attractive to the people who live in that area.

The latest talk is that Schiano would love the job but hiring another coach with a defensive background after Golden might not go over well. Sounds like they are going to go offensive if they can't land a big name.

Can you imagine the groans from South Florids if the hire Stoops, a defensive coach with an 11-20 record and whose current team has given up 1100 yards the last 2 weeks?

First of all Coach Stoopid couldn't get that lucky, he'll eventually get fired like all the others willing to take that graveyard of a job. Secondly, the Miami job will never be what it was until the university's administration invests monetarily into the program. That ship has sailed.

The original story in the thread was the writers opinion about whom the school should pursue. Whatever his reason is for suggesting Stoops, it is his own reason, and he doesn't really share it other than recruiting. It doesn't mean that the school is interested in him.

Stoops realizes there aren't many HC gigs in his future. No way he takes a pay cut to leave early.

This is my concern as well. Let's keep stoops right where he is. The highest paid coach per bowl game in the country. :)

Well Coker and Shannon had been in the U program so that explains why they were given the opportunity. I think after the whole Shapiro debacle, Donna Shalala wanted someone outside of the program which explains how they ever got to Golden at Temple. I think that they will have to go after a name hire - and that doesn't include Brohm or, Porky.

I do agree though that Brohm is setting himself up nicely for a nice upgrade in jobs.

Between the 2 (UK and Miami) football means more to Miami plain and simple.
Does it? Honestly I don't know. Not trying to give yut fans any kudos but there at least seems to be a contingent of diehards that have embraced the (not so) lovable loser mentality that accompanies such a perennial doormat program. U fans - whether it's because there's about 1,000,001 more things to do in Miami than lexington or because the program has been way down for better than a decade - simply don't show up.

At all.

Unless the opponent is FSU or ND.

Given that they were paying Golden about 750K less than Stupes, not really sure the administration is serious about their football program either.

I'd think Cristobal is the front runner here.
According to Dennis Dodd, a lot of the fans want former player and assistant Rob Chudzinski who is an assistant with the Colts now. Chudz biggest drawback would probably be that he hasn't coached in college in over a decade.

I wonder if the brass wants to go away from the Miami family i.e. Cristobal, Chudzinski. What is always interesting is watching the coaching dominoes fall after the season and then the moves for jobs once the first big hire is made.

The problem for Miami is that they cannot afford a top tier coach. I think Cristobal will ultimately get the job

That's true. UofK fans are loyal to their doormat program. They support the team regardless. Miami fans are very fickle. If the team is undefeated and highly ranked, then they MIGHT come out to see them play.

The U needs a "villain" coach with attitude & swagger. Jeff Brohm & Mark Stoops are "nice guys" and do not match their culture.
