Let's not shame this kid, and that young guy still looks like a "kid" to me. He received a memento from someone whom he obviously admires. Hell, if Darrell Griffith had given me something like that back in the day, I probably would have been pretty damn excited myself. Having said all that, IMHO it just means "more" to many adult UK fans. UK basketball simply holds a very high priority in the lives of many of their fans. And that can be a great thing (financial support, attendance, passion, etc.), or it can be a negative thing (obsession, unrealistic expectations, erratic mood swings based on coach, player, or team performance, and just an unhealthy emotional devotion to one aspect of their overall lives). I personally admire their passion and devotion, while at the same time shake my head at their seeming obsession to a single aspect of life. And now, having said all that, I know (and am related to) many, many UK fans well, and they are wonderful human beings (just like us) when removed from that single aspect of their lives.

There is no man in this world or human that could or would bring me to tears by giving me a memento....I would never ever cry over sports, negative or positive as a spectator. Some people just dont have much going on in their lives apparently. Sports to me are for entertainment and entertainment only.
Now... anyone my kids could make me sob like a baby by giving me something special.

On the surface, that looks strange, and a little sad. But, you never know what someone is going through, or their back story. The kid could have some emotional issues, he could have been having a really bad week, you just never know. I'm all for people being happy, so if that made him cry tears of joy, good for him.

My grandfather always said Louisville basketball is part of life. Our neighbor, a UK fan, always said Kentucky basketball is life.
I've never seen it put in words before, but it succinctly describes my experience inside the two fan bases. UK BB is an all-encompassing experience (Big Blue Line, Oscar Combs publications, Clark Francis' Hoop Scoop, et al) while being a diehard Card has allowed me to enjoy life most of the last 40 years without constantly seeking the latest tidbit of information.
