Richt was fired Nov. 29 from his job at Georgia - he arrived at the program with the goal of taking the lid off a program that had not won an SEC title in 20 years. Since taking over 14 years ago he won two SEC Championships (2002, '05), five SEC Eastern Division titles and tied for another. His winning percentage at the program is fourth in the nation among active coaches. Richt was named SEC Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2005. Before taking over at Georgia in 2001 he coached at FSU as a GA and quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator. He's a former Hurricane quarterback, graduating in 1982. He was Jim Kelly's backup at UM.
Bottom line:Richt was fired Nov. 29 by Georgia and sources are telling CaneSport he is extremely interested in the Miami job. In 2006 and 2010 there was never a real thought Richt would consider the Miami job. This season didn't go well for him with losses to Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and a narrow escape over Missouri and Georgia Tech. So the timing might just be right for him to come on board at UM.
