I went to Rivals main board and there is a thread on there saying Tyra has turned down the FSU job.

It appears he has turned down FSU, and that he's 50/50 on returning to Louisville. He may get back into the private sector. Of course, he could be posturing for a raise and contract extension, as someone else pointed out.

Tyra may be going back to the private sector, or just retire. He really doesn't have to schlep around universities to make a living.

Vince's tenure was interesting

1. He entered during a time of conflict and scandal. Had to follow a legend.

2. Of the sports that had coaches in place, he kept them happy and Baseball, WBB, Soccer, Volleyball, etc. all seem to be humming along. So our entire dept. didn't collapse.

3. Hired Mack, which at the time was loved and probably the best we could do considering the circumstances. We reached #1 in the nation in year 2. Year 3 we lost 2 months due to COVID. Let's see how this year goes.

4. Inherits a Petrino who didn't care. Roster filled with turnovers and terrible depth. Moral issues. Satt came in and won in year 1. He's rebuilt the roster on the lines and defense. The moral of the team is much better and there's a lot better feeling. It was a situation that could've been Kansas Jayhawk level bad, but we didn't go down and we've maintained.

5. Fans weren't happy with things. Money wasn't the same. And sometimes perception can turn into reality. Pitino was gone before he got here and it was still fresh and Lamar Jackson was just leaving as Vince arrived and it fell apart. Tom didn't get any blame because he wasn't the AD when the 2018 NIT and 2018 2-10 season was, he got to leave on a high note. Where Vince was the face of a new era that had challenges to start.

Been watching the Volleyball team defeat Florida in the regional semifinals at Freedom Hall while catching up on the administrative fiasco currently underway. Didn't seem to bother the players. They knocked out the best of 5 series in 3 sets. Hope WAVE 3 news at 3:00 has an update or at least a timeline recap of this mess.

So, the whole contract revision song and dance with the BOT wasn't to clear the way for him to take the FSU gig, but for him to immediately quit. Very bizarre. Just like this whole week, there will be multiple variations of what actually happened, the why's and how's, for years to come. I do know this, Mack and Satt better start winning on the reg. They are officially auditioning for the new AD, whomever that might be.

I hope it is an AD with experience in the athletic field. I don’t understand why we would hire an AD and University President without experience. I think we can do better than that, I do feel for Vince because he was put in a tough spot. Neeli is a different story she was not a good fit I wish Penn State a lot of luck. I hope the next ones hired realize how much the University as whole means to this city.
Have them look at the success and support of all our programs including the women’s sports.

Most people affiliated with the university were very happy with the job Neeli had done and was doing. There is a reason a university the size of Penn St wanted her over dozens of candidates.

I’d expect Tyra to ultimately get into consulting for athletics departments at different universities or perhaps at a conference level. His expertise was highly valued during Covid and with NIL. Glad he turned down FSU.

I think we give these people way too much credit and credibility coming in the door. We attribute superfluous accomplishments to them early in their tenures because we want to feel good about them. And then when the going gets tough--or even before--they jump ship. None of that is a basis to look back fondly on their time here.

One of my favorite expressions a few years back was "clowns beget clowns". I respect @beantowncard's question about where that logic ends, and somewhere you do have to break the chain. You shouldn't, however, simply trust someone because you want to trust them or maybe have closure and "move on". That's not enough.

I've talked to many people over the last few years, and there's one consistent theme--the regime that took over after Ramsey et al was NOT trusted (or not enough). That's why money and fan support have dwindled. And it's not coming back unless that's acknowledged and addressed head on. Trumped up "national searches" aren't the answer. The new people in charge have to resonate with fans who are standing on the sidelines.

Tyra thought he could recruit replacements. He jokingly referred to a "small number of loud voices" when he initially ran into resistance. He found out that was the wrong strategy. It will take another decade to simply evolve and turn over the current fanbase. We don't have that much time, and I for one am glad that things are coming to a head quickly...

I've been floating Todd Stewart at WKU

He has the qualities and resume we all like as he's turned WKU from little leagues to an actual threat.

Had a good eye to hire Taggard and Jeff Brohm. Brought in Petrino and Stansbury. Gets their donors involved. Student and fan engagement is crazy high. Successfully navigated their transition to FBS. Worked for an NFL team and for a conference before.

I think that's a qualified guy who is a go getter. He wants the BIG FISH and gets his guy. He wants to move up. He gets big matchups and isn't scared of UK or UofL. Their fans are energized for such a small school. Their facilities get better every single year.

He's done Tom like things at WKU. Imagine what he can do at a place with our resources?

It is hard to argue the fans apathy or negativity. Jurich was trusted 100% by the fanbase there is no denying that. The boosters obviously supported him.

The question is how do you get the Presidents office aligned with Athletics? No matter who is brought in, the University has to be aligned. The main reason Jurich was so successful was he and Ramsey were 100% aligned. It allowed Jurich to do his job. Jurich would of never survived the new regime because they weren’t going to agree on how Athletics would run. It was clear Tyra and Neelie weren’t on same page. No way it will work when that is the case.

Louisville needs both to thrive. Boosters and fans need to support the teams while trying to stay out of the politics of running large organization.

Todd Stewart is worth a look and I agree with Cycle we need to have the President and the AD working together to produce the best product both in academics and athletics.
