ESPN and sports media in general, have looked down on Louisville hoops ever since 1986 when the Cards beat Duke in the finals. They all believed Duke was the better team and couldn't accept they lost to a freshman at Louisville.
This was long before Pitino was here.
As for UofL football, I still think much of the media still looks at Louisville as a non power conference program and that's where the lack of respect comes from.
Performance is the only way to change their opinions. It was almost there when Lamar and the Cards had Clemson beat in that top 5 match-up. Had the Cards won that game maybe they wouldn't have collapsed and things would have went differently with Petrino?
