Interesting pick up for multiple reasons. Looks like we are going with last years strategy….. This might be an upgrade at PG, and lost a bit with Emily leaving. But everyone else is a year older, and we add some athletic freshmen.

But with this transfer, someone has to go….. My guess would be Merissa Russell, or the 6’5 freshman from last season. Hopefully they transfer to Miss St.

Chrislyn Carr - 5’5” PG GT from Syracuse. Looks to be a very solid addition.

Well she makes 16 players…. Someone either has to come off scholarship or transfer.

That’s what I was thinking…. I love 6’5, she just didn’t look to comfortable at this level.

She’s only really been playing basketball since High School. Dani had been recruiting her for VB when Jeff got involved

that’s good to know. Well we could definitely use 6’5 in volleyball…..

Schetnan will devote full time to Volleyball and not play basketball.

Cards WBB Roster as of 4/20/22:

Chrislyn Carr
Alexia Mobley
Morgan Jones
Nyla Harris
Zyanna Walker
Imani Lester
Jayln Brown
Hailey Van Lith
Ahlana Smith
Norika Konno
Kasa Robinson
Olivia Cochran
Liz Dixon
Payton Verhulst
Merissah Russell

That's 15 by my count.

On Russell, she is Van Lith's roommate and the two are pretty close, so I don't think a transfer is likely.

Another question I've been asked is, if Walz wants another player out of the transfer portal, might he ask one of the freshmen to "redshirt". I suppose anything is possible, but I haven' gotten any indications that a situation like that is pending..

On Angel Reese: I have no clue who Reese is even interested in, she has kept everything pretty quiet on social media. The only coaches she has recently followed on social media are assistants from SC, Ole Miss and LSU. Even that doesn't guarantee much.

The bottom line is that the transfer portal can dramatically change a squad's roster. And coaches have much more knowledge and insight than fans do when it comes to roster addition and the benefits of offering one player over another. They are fully aware of team needs and how payers can help fill them. But, message boards are made for speculation and query. As least women's sports are getting more attention at various sites.

So what happened to the Covid roster adjustment? On this very forum it was discussed how coaches can go above the standard scholarship level (at least for another season). If true, no one would need to go. Again, just because someone is redshirting doesn’t mean they are not on scholarship.

The Covid roster adjustment was just for the one year from what we are gathering. 15 is the max, and like we suspected, Schetnan according to Sonia is the one moving on, which brings the roster down to 15.

obviously, if he taps again into the transfer portal, someone else would have to move on….. Redshirts are counted in the 15 scholarships, as Alexia Mobley was countered towards last years 15 scholarships.

With Jones and Carr assumingly coming in to play right away, who of the four freshmen will see significant minutes? Two are guards and two are forwards.

Will either guard get more courtime than Robinson and Smith? Will the forwards see time over Konno and Verhultz?

HVL and Olivia are obvious starters but who are the other three?

My early guess,

HVL
Carr
Jones
Verhultz
Cochran

I like your starting five and I’m going with Zyanna Walker, who apparently was a big time recruit before she blew her knew out and is supposedly better than her HS ranking, AND Alexia Mobley who spent a year redshirting, learning the system and culture.

I think MyKasa will play close to the same amount of minutes and Payton sops up 65% of Kianna’s minutes. Leaving room for Zyanna to get some time in the game……

There is some discussion that CJW might want to add one more and if he does, Ahlana might be on the move due to the signing of Chrislyn and heading to Mississippi State due to her relationship with Sam. I wouldn’t consider this tampering but CJW helping a player and a friend. This could open a spot for former Miss KY, Maddie Scherr transfering back home from Oregon. Could be simply a rumor but worth keeping an eye on.

If Coach decides to dip into the portal, I see him grabbing an athletic type that can defend and score…. After that Final Four game you can bet HVL will face plenty of 6’1 players next season trying to copy South Carolina’s blue print. I suspect she uses the Summer to overcome that….

from my rose tinted glasses, it appears that Coach has went after team leaders and not supporting players the last few seasons. So I don’t see an avenue where Maddie Scherr attracts his attention. I could be wrong, but I think we have player equivalents on the bench.

with that being said, I can’t find any video of our incoming recruits.

Jeff is playing it close to the vest, but he mentioned that he “has a 3rd possible addition”.

I will go ahead and say it right now, if he can lure Angel Reece to this roster, we will be projected no lower than #2 pre-season.

Bingo. That would be my choice (if anyone cared to ask me). I think there was a player from South Carolina as well who looked like could be a solid pickup.

Maddie Scherr or Angel Reece would be a good addition, Scherr is an aggressive player on offense and defense.

And Shay Robinson recruited Angel Reese to Maryland...think she'd like to get acquainted with him again?

Walz is slow playing this one but koo Koo Kim (Mulkey) down at LSU is on the hunt too.

I could definitely see Reese…. That’s the type player he’s been recruiting out of the portal.
