To Those Who Said…

To those who said that trading CJB for CSS would be just an even trade, I think you have to admit now that it was far greater than even. Yes, I know that CJB has yet to coach a game here, I’ll give you that. BUT, the infusion of excitement that CJB has ignited is far greater than anything CSS had done so far and I would even say far greater than anything he could ever do. There is testosterone in this place now that has been lacking for the past four years. Better players are coming in and CJB runs an exciting offense that will put our fans back in the stands. He also looks to be very committed to defense based upon the retention of Coach Ivey and the recruits he has been signing.

No longer do we have to watch the same four plays being run time and again. No longer will we be running the ball on second/third and long. No longer will getting the ball in the red zone be cause for concern rather than cause for joy.

Agreed. My only misgivings with Brohm was what it would cost to get him here and pay him. I felt the same way in 2018.

But I never questioned how well he would be supported by the fanbase, nor do I think we will perform any worse than we have the last five years. And if Brohm is successful, he's likely not going anywhere.

That support sounds tempered, but I don't get wildly optimistic about most coaching hires. There is still only so much that Brohm can do to fix this mess of an athletic department...

Yeah I’ve already eaten my crow, tabasco helped. Pretty happy with the turn of events and really happy Satt left on his own and Cincy paid for our upgrade!

Brohm wasn’t hired to, nor does he need to concern himself with fixing the athletic department. Returning the football program to something the fans can be excited for, and proud of, will be enough.

It's not his job to do that. But I'll guarantee you the folks out on Floyd St. are hoping like hell Brohm is the Second Coming to save their own asses...

My argument was there was no reason to fire Satterfield to get Brohm because of the financial situation.

I knew there would be an immediate bump in excitement. I wonder how long the excitement last if he producing similar results 7-8 wins annually. I do think the ceiling is higher but it all boils down to what they do on the field.

He wins the athletic department will be fine he losses it will struggle. It will be interesting to watch what Brohm wants in terms of investment. The biggest hurdle is probably going to be keeping his key guys paid.

Before his hire, I've said that Brohm gives you a puncher's chance against anyone, we'd have exciting wins tempered with some head scratching losses - because that's what "the back of his baseball card" says. In 2018, his increased salary at Purdue made him a Top 10 coach, salarywise, and I wasn't sure that was a great investment based on the back of his baseball card.

That all said, he's hired so I'm all on board now. Boots are on the ground, we're in so let's win, all those cliches. I've been very impressed with the recruiting and transfers in so far, and UC paying Satterfield's buyout is just icing on the cake. Excitement has clearly been injected into the program, let's see what happens in the Fall. Louisville is appearing on some too-early Top 25 lists, which shows me it's not just the fans who are enthused about the hire. I'm not one to wish my life away but sports-wise football season can't get here fast enough. Let's Play Football!!!

Agree with what has been stated already. I have been blown away with the immediate impact of the portal this early on. I knew we would grab some guys, but to this level......WTF!!!! And on top of it, we go out and grab a TOP 10 player in the nation for '24. I think the schedule sets up nicely this season to get this thing rolling with a full head of steam. I am ready to get that Louisville swagger back on the football field, thats what we have been missing!!

Teh schedule next year is not difficult. I see 8 wins as the floor and 10 as the ceiling.

My position was and remains a little different when looking back as compared to where we are now.

First, I already admitted that Ghost was correct about Brohm returning; something that frankly I never believed would happen.

I still believe Scott Satterfield is a very good football coach, and while he was incredibly disloyal to UL after year one when chasing the So Carolina job ……he surprised me again when taking the UC job; given the trade that brings Jeff back home, I am totally pleased!

UL football may very well jump back into the National discussion given the momentum that Jeff brings to this program.

To set the record straight - Hank also confirmed hearing the same inside information about Brohm. Interestingly, despite being correct about that and most other things that were posted with regards to both JB and Sunbelt Scotty - I assume you still have us both on ignore.

Good information seldom is able to make into your echo chamber.

Brohm has instant credibility with most U of L fans whether or not he ends up meeting people’s expectations on the field. Not enough U of L people now share that credibility.

My issues with his return were never about him personally. Had everything to do with Brohm’s affordability. To some extent it still does although Satterfield’s exit helped with that.

Brohm & staff make a lot of money for this athletic department to be able to afford in 2023. Hopefully he makes a big impact on revenues and he succeeds DESPITE the people he works for…

Seriously, did anyone see Satterfield resigning in order to take the UC job? I agree with Zipp …..Christmas came early when Satterfield left without UL a having to come up with money we do not have to terminate his contract.

I thought it was odd Brohm said what he did back in the summer. It makes you wonder if this was the play all along. It did give the Bring Brohm Home juice. I am sure JH was told he would come and it gave him the leverage he desperately needed.

Another takeaway from this is while wins matter trust or enthusiasm behind a coach maybe more important. I think Zipp has alluded to this in the revenue sports you have to pay for that fan trust and enthusiasm.

From a fan perspective Brohm gives us that sense of security that it is OK to go all in on football. It is much easier to have the trust than to earn it.

I don't care about the loyalty thing. All these guys are mercenaries - probably even Brohm.

Thanks to Satterfield for improving on 2-10, setting up a pretty good culture, a balanced roster, and not getting in the way of an out-of-nowhere Top 30 recruiting class. He left the program better than he found it and moved on. He's a slightly above average P5 coach and I think he'll live in that 5-7 to 7-5 range at UC. Unfortunately for him, he is following a guy who was historically great so he'll be judged more harshly than he was at Louisville.

IMO, 7-5 was his ceiling and he would never do better than 7-5 at Louisville. I'm glad he took us to a better place, and after 4 years I'm glad he's gone. Good luck to him.
