I know the NCAA is a rarely consistent. but does anyone know what standard the NCAA uses to determine if penalties are warranted? I'm guessing that something probably did happen that was bankrolled by McGee and T-Will. But is that enough for violations to be levied?

Something happened or Jurich wouldn't have made the calculated move to get out in front of it BEFORE the book went on sale. The university has known about the allegations since August according to Forde's article. The NCAA has been involved since then too. This will get messy before it gets cleaned up. IMO, Pitino's future with the program is coming to an end. A new chapter of UofL basketball is about to begin. Time to turn the page.

If penalties are warranted? McGee was the university official in charge of making sure basketball recruits were handled properly. If the allegations are true I can't think of a better example of "lack of institutional control." The NCAA clobbers programs that lack institutional control.

Who the hell is running compliance at UofL? They put on those stupid commercials at the football game showing compliance officers swooping down when some guy tries to give a tennis player an extra $20 for lessons for his kid. If this was happening where were the compliance officials?

Yes because McGee was on the staff. That is considered inappropriate benefits to recruits and the student athlete concerning the player on the team. If I misspelled anything sorry in advance not a English major.

You nailed why are they getting paid and not doing the job they are paid to do.

mcgee would probably just get a show cause penalty and keep coaching somewhere else if you go by precedent. not sure if anyone would hire him though with what we know/assume we know about what he did. my gut tells me this doesn't bring the hammer but you guys are gonna get some scholarship reductions and recruiting limitations.

Simple,
If you are University of North Carolina, Notre Dame or a Florida State, you can do anything you want. If you are a program like UofL, you are screwed.
