This team owes us an apology.

brooks, Shorty, I'm usually on your side of issues... But none of these guys asked for this situation. The players are of course gonna want to keep a coach they know and feel comfortable with. That doesn't mean they'll work like the dogs that Pitino would have demanded. And Padgett wasn't gonna turn down the opportunity at the U of L coaching job. He had nothing to lose by trying.

It is what it is. You just wait it out and try to make it better next year...

Agree but the level of effort these players are currently giving is rec league quality. Defense is optional, no intensity and even less pride. I'm not insulting anyone's character on the team but I also don't understand how you can go out and represent yourself that way on national television.

It is pretty easy to see. No fire. Spalding shows glimpses of pride but quickly gives up once he sees he's the only one wanting to fight back. Nobody else looks to be trying (that starts). Sutton comes in and fights, but his skill set is limited.

This team has all but quit. They quit last night once the lead for Duke hit double digits. They didn't even try to fight back. That was very troubling.

They got the coach they wanted! Now they won’t give him 100%. He should bench Deng Adel and Anas. No way those two start for me
Thats why they wanted him. They knew he wouldn't run them until they almost died like our last coach did if they messed up.

They got what they wanted and are getting their asses embarrassed in the process.

There was a day when we would play the blue bloods and either beat them or make a damn good game of it...this year, we have gotten our asses handed to us the three times that we have played a blue blood. The Pitino days are over until we make a hire.

Some of these kids had to sit out the 2016 tournament. All of the kids stayed with and committed to UofL with the massive threat of NCAA penalties over their head and never really wavered. Those kids lost the coach they committed to and have to answer questions about things they that they had no involvement.

Maybe I speak out of turn as a sUcKs fan, but I would be proud of these kids and cheer harder for them no matter wins and losses. They are 18-22 year old KIDS dealing with pressure and scrutiny most of you will never face. They knew about the issues and were loyal to the Cards, I would think they should get more support than any other group of guys you have had.

It'll be over soon, guys. Then a new coach, then a new era. I know the FBI stuff looms, not only for us but for all of college basketball, but we just took a huge step past the McGee scandal. Sure, it's not how we wanted it to end, but it's over. On to the next chapter.

Don't give me they are down etc etc etc. Excuses are for losers. These guys disgust me. Pull their scholarships tonight and cancel the rest of the season. These guys are blanking quitters!!! Spalding is the only exclusion.
Completely ridiculous premise. Get over yourself.

You can't turn down a NIT bid unless you do it before the season. You are obligated by the NCAA to compete. The NIT tournament is owned by the NCAA.

I'd like to watch a team forced to play. About like the slapd!cks forcing Diallo or Vanderbilt to play when that was suggested...

I may be mistaken but didn’t Denny and or Bill Olsen turn down an NIT bid after the season ended in 1987, the year after winning the Title. I believe that team finished just above .500.

I feel for the guys as they've been put in an impossible position. And I feel for the group of guys who suffered through a self-impossed post season which meant nothing. And David Padgett might have screwed himself out of any other big time coaching job.

So what is everyone thoughts about next year, do we keep Padgett?

Through some quick research, I found that the NCAA taking over the NIT and requiring a preseason decline is a relatively recent (within the last few years) change.

The NCAA bought the NIT in 2005 and imposes different rules than back then. You'll see some chatter about LSU "turning down the postseason" in 2016, but they either informed the NCAA before the season (unlikely) or weren't going to even make the NIT (you can turn down a CBI bid, they are not owned by the NCAA).

I recall that too. Wasn't aware the NIT bids were forced participation now. No wonder that tourney is still around.
