A great coach can win with his players or yours. And this program wasn't built on five-star kids. Not sure why that's gonna change...

It's obvious some folks just don't understand talent . Mack wants some 4 and 5 star talent . he came to U of L expecting to be able too at least have 1 or 2 Bentley's in the driveway. not Honda Accords If that's what he wanted he would have stayed at Xavier. A little elite talent with some good coaching goes a long way. Rick got away with inferior talent because he was just a plain helluva coach. Mack is good but i don't think he is RIck level. Heck we in the situation we are in now cause Rick realized going forward he needed some NBA level talent. Kids today want to know they are going to a program that gives the impression they have a shot at the league.

I 'm a person that wants top talent anybody else can be happy with lesser . Just my opinion ! And i guarantee when or if we are fielding less talented teams people will be on on here complaining about recruiting watch and see.

Four-star senior Gethro Muscadin is focused on four schools including: Kansas, Louisville, Texas Tech, and Kansas State. He doesn’t currently have any remaining visits but has visited all four schools. | Update
This player plays right here in the city of Louisville at aspire

Our freshman class is loaded, the current high school recruits see that. We’ll be fine IMO. Recruiting for most programs is cyclical.

Well i guess Rivals is putting out bogus crap . All you have to do is look at his rivals profile its all right their for the world to read.

Why would Mack "come to U of L expecting to be able too at least have 1 or 2 Bentley's in the driveway. not Honda Accords"? Is that a quote, or did you conclude that somehow?

I don't recall Mack ever saying he needed to step up the level of our recruiting. And we can count the number of 5-star kids we've recruited the last ten years on one hand...

He did say at Louisville they feel like they can go after and get guys that they couldn’t at Xavier....which he showed in his first years class. 1 high 4/5 five star a class is needed to be elite in college basketball

REDFISH, I finally found that Rivals site. I didn't realize it was a junior & 2021. Sorry, I really thought your copy was from some mocking social media stuff. I can't get interested that far out. In this world things change in a year or two, especially in our UofL world. :(

You truly have no idea how recruiting works.

"We have the best fans in basketball!"

Not to pick on Mack, but I'm pretty sure I've heard him say that too...

Maybe because Louisville is a top 5 program? Just because your “Master” wasn’t able to sign top talent (without cheating) doesn’t mean Mack won’t be able to.

The Master didn't have those problems until he started listening to his biological clock, tried to shortcut the process, listened to clueless millennials, and thought he could do what everyone else does.

If Mack is a good coach, he doesn't need to do it either. Nor can he do it safely anyway...

Lack of elite talent was why Cal owned him What i'm learning from certain fans is that their to old now to realize elite talent is needed. Some people just refuse to change with the times are to slow to adapt . That was a big problem with Crum over time it passes the best bye..

That's the little brother stuff talking that you're carrying around. My advice is get rid of it.

I'm not too old to recognize that "elite talent" ain't what Pitino's best teams had. The pursuit of "elite talent" is what brought him down.

And Crum didn't fall off because he lacked "elite talent". He lost in part because of the lack of ANY talent. And he stopped trying, or everyone else was trying harder.

U of L basketball was not built on a foundation of 5-star talent. Understand and embrace who you are...

Lol - those seem odd steps for someone who is a “master” to take. “Masters” don’t need to cheat to stay relevant, they don’t need to cheat to win and, they don’t need to take advice from nor cede authority to, subordinates because they’re unable to get it done.

This is a bit of a canard. UofL basketball’s was “built” prior to 5 star rankings being a thing. That said - the list of elite talent that came through the program from the mid 70s to when pitino got here is long and quite “embraceable”.

Perhaps it’s you with the lack of understanding.

McDonald's AAs have been around a long time--more than four decades. That's about 25 kids on the two rosters, compared to 25-30 five-star kids at the top of a Rivals 150 list. How many of those kids has U of L landed in 40+ years?

And how many of those kids were central to Final Four teams?

Weak analysis on your part.

The Master earned that distinction well before he started listening to stupid people...

The NBA is going to drop the one and done rule so I think the real challenge is going to be pursuing top flight talent that isn’t quite good enough to make the immediate leap to the league.

UofL McDonald's AA History - started just after Dr. Dunkenstein!

When reviewing the McD AA history, a few things stand out to me...

That drought from 1994 - 2000 - coincidentally right around the time the UofL program hit the skids. Could even reach back to 1991-2000... Legree transfers, Osborne plays what, 2 years, then bounces? So really, that entire decade was awful recruiting, and also a down decade for UofL basketball.

1986 Team - 3 of the 5 starters were highly recruited players. Kimbro was the 6th man and another top shelf recruit.

I counted 29 McD AA in 40ish years. A few guys never made it, a few transferred, a few under-achieved..

I will add, 1 guy led to a massive off court problem !!!!

I dunno. Those elite Crum teams had some top recruits it can't be denied I don't think.

The issues in the 90s - I think it's fair to say the drop in recruiting impacted the results of the program.

Pitino's title team - 3 of 5 starters McD AA.... Siva, Blackshear, Behanan.

As Hop's post points out - the period of time beginning with Griff's signing (counting him as a McD AA) and running thorough the year after the 1986 title, UofL had multiple McD AA's on their roster that were central to that run of excellence.

Also, thanks for proving my point - "masters" (yours or others) don't listen to stupid people on how to conduct their business. That Pitino did, means he was never a "master" at all.

Lol - "weak analysis"...
