Texas A&M Marching Aggie Band (Link)

They put the "marching" back in marching band. I like it when bands play March music, which is what they are good at, instead of trying to play pop music, which they are not good at. Like most school bands the put UL's to shame. Very impressive, especially the "Aggie War Hymn".

Some family health issues caused us to miss the bowl this year. Ms. WildCard went to school near aTm and saw games down at College Station during her college years. She always told me how good their band was and all about their great game traditions (12th man, standing all game, kissing on scores; the list goes on and on). Well, the Cards had a 3 game series with aTm back in the Schnelly years and we went down there for a game. In this halftime performance they open and close with the Aggie War Hymn, a song that mocks arch rival Texas ("Goodbye to Texas University, farewell to the orange and white...")

In home performances they have a big pre game show (marching on to the field, music for the entry of the corp of cadets, horse calvary march, etc.) but do not play the Aggie War Hymn until the team returns to the field right before KO. At that point the band plays it and 85,000 fans (then) jump up link, arms, sing and sway...and don't sit down until half time (12th man thing). Ms. WC embarrassed me by jumping up out of her seat, crossing the aisle and linking up with the Aggies fans seated in the next section. The band is large (300+) and features very precise, tight formations rather than forming shapes and such and even the band has traditions. You see the guys wearing riding boots? They are seniors; only seniors get to wear boots.

Been fortunate to see some games in some great places but, still to this day, Kyle Field absolutely the best game day environment I have ever witnessed. Put a trip to aTm on your football bucket list!

Peace

Just as long as she doesn't cross the aisle at a UK game. LOL

Also hope the family health issues are past.

The absolute best Marching Band I have seen.
An Army ROTC Marching Kaleidoscope.
Never seen anything like it!

They also seemed to provide most of the cheering.

texas a and m band I thought to be very ordinary compared to others I have seen. however I know nothing about their traditions. I give more to u of l band than anywhere else and I know we are trying but compared especially to deep south bands there is no hope.

The UofL band is capable of being good. When you listen to them, they sound good. They just don't have a sense of showmanship. They need a director who went to college at a school with an entertaining marching band to pick a repertoire and design shows that entertain.

Every year at season end I get an email from UofL asking me what the school can do to improve the game day experience for the fan, I am sure others here get the same email. Every year I answer: improve the band. My suggestions:

1. Replace Steve Kirkland - boring
2. Add percussion - Increase Size Drum Line
3. Find a Signature - Need to capitalize on Derby Connection

I what to say again how happy I am to just be able to "complain" about the band. Not the conference, not the schedule, not the talent on the field , not the stadium but the band. How blessed are we Card fans?

They just aren't big enough. They aren't capable of producing that SEC or BIG Sound
Worst band I've ever seen at the college level - Harvard. There's about 16 of them and they come out in Crimson blazers and slacks - they look like night managers at a Dennys. They don't try to march, but just sort of stroll around while playing their instruments (badly).
