Where’s all the talent experts from the preseason that preached on top of sunshine pumper mountain to me? Feeling pretty silly at this point?

The crow I said I’d eat if wrong about this bunch? I put it in the freezer for another topic! I don’t have to eat it this season.

You tried to warn them. Good luck finding somebody to admit they were wrong though. But yeah, no alphas. We were saying that from the jump.

EDIT - They showed SOMETHING in The Bahamas briefly. I guess it stayed there. Mirage. Etc.

Well I'll own it. I went to the two exhibition games and I thought we would be a top 25 team this year.. I have no idea what happened to this team but they are horrible right now...

After the exhibition games I thought we could be good because I thought we could score from every position. What I didn’t realize was that we had no defensive intensity and that our shooters couldn’t actually shoot when it mattered.

This was easy to see early in the year the talent level wasn’t there. On top of that they aren’t athletic. Slow and plays below A terrible combination.

Whenever every team you play has the best player that is a problem.

I had 'em a bubble team so we weren't really that far off. But man the lack of talent was pretty clear when they were relying on Malik so much. Just nobody playing above the rim or anywhere near it really. Nobody could get their own shot. Oh well.

GO CARDS!

Curry would be a beast in the right offense with some decent passing guards and forwards. Definitely misused by the UofL staff all year. Needs to improve his defense but he can definitely score and rebound with the best of them.

Smarter coaching would have realized that and taken advantage. He reminds me of left handed Wesley Unseld. Bring back Peck Hickman and John Dromo from the grave. That man...Curry...is a player with heart.

Curry has more heart than the rest of the team combined! Wes Unseld?!?! Come on now you are talking about arguably the best player to ever lace‘‘em up for UofL

His body build and how he works the paint is what reminds me of Unseld's play. I didn't say he was as good as Wes but he does play as hard as Wes did and with heart. Unseld s incomparable in his greatness and what he did for the UofL program in his time.

Both of those players were very well coached. If Curry gets that too...the sky is his limit.

“I’ll be your Huckleberry“; these kids do have talent; and in many respects the same issues this UL team is having, is what I witnessed with UK last year. No one questioned UK’s 2020-21 roster talent, they just performed badly.

I cannot explain Mack’s behavior, or Williams‘ late season meltdown, or Withers & Traynor regression from last season, or how 2 career 40% 3 point shooters could transfer in here and lose their touch so badly? Locke’s first 3 at Cuse was an air-ball!

Talent vs. performance; one does not necessarily follow the other, and the disaster we are witnessing with this UL team goes a whole lot beyond talent level.

I'm thinking more like Charles Jones..

Wes Unseld is in a different stratosphere.
Charles Jones was much better but they are about the same size.

He sat on the bench half the year.

I would say in body type, he’s more like Rodney, 6-7 with a big butt. Jones was 6-8 but strong and lean. He was more polished. Either one, Big Syd has a way to go to be compared to either one. Those are Louisville Legends!

I remember seeing Charles at Old Cardinal Stadium and asked him if he really did get a piece of Minnifield’s layup near the end of the Dream Game. A lot of UK fans said he didn’t. Charles replied Oh yeah, I got a piece of that!

The other thing about talent coaches have to figure out what is best for the collection of talent. This team can’t guard.

This team is built to be a zone team. For example JJ could play on the wing in the zone or the top of a 1-3-1. JJ can’t play man to man because he gets bullied. Faulkner/West/Locke/Ellis/Davis all could do better in a zone. Same with Williamson and Cross. Rose and Williams in the middle.

This was really easy to see early on but they stuck to their man to man concepts even though they couldn’t play it. Pitino would of designed a zone with this group. No question about that

I respectfully disagree. At one time, our defense was good. That’s what every announcer would say. However, we were boring on offense and Mack listened to that and tried to bring in some offensive guru to fix it. Problem is teams don’t generally change their identities over the course of a season, let alone 10-12 games. Mack became desperate and frustrated, but I think it’s a flaw in his coaching ability to make the right adjustments.

Boring offense has nothing to do with how they play defense. The 2012 team was terrible on offense but terrific on defense.

It was fools gold early on. Even when they were putting up decent defensive numbers opposing players were lighting them up. They are terrible on defense. They can’t keep anyone out of the lane which leads to easy 3’s.

His performance against 7’ Turpin in Knoxville was truly an amazing display of athleticism. Denny once said he had never even heard the term “quick jumper”, until it was applied to Charles’ ability to leave his feet so quickly and so often.
