In prior times, LPT couldn't even stay on the field with U of L. Stoops' LPT teams have lost by an average of 10.6 points each year to U of L. During Petrino's first U of L tenure and with the fabled Pappaw Brooks at the LPT helm, the Wildcats were drubbed by an average of three TDs per game. And that was with the vast advantage in resources that LPT had a decade ago WRT U of L.

Stoops is a victim of the stepchild culture at LPT for every sport besides basketball. It's a graveyard for coaches and players, and it's time they stick with a quality coach who can recruit. Assuming Stoops doesn't suffer too much attrition to his roster, the guy definitely is the coach to continue LPT's progress.

Anyone with me?...

I don't think anyone could do much better than Stoops is doing at UK. They will make a bowl every once in a while, and that's the ceiling. Stoops has basically done about what you'd expect at UK. He's due another extension.

Stoops' three-year record at LPT 12-24

Pappaw's first three years 9-25. And that guy is now an LPT football god.

Before anyone says "Brooks was taking over from probation", remember that Stoops was succeeding Joker....

I am just shocked why good recruits would go there, Jason Hatcher will spend 4 years there and will probably never go to a Bowl game or never be on a winning team.

I'm with you except for Basketball recruiting. No one and I mean No one goes year after year getting the number 1 class every year, He is doing something funny if you ask me and his record has proved it. When he leaves KY it will show up. He seems to keep one step ahead. I hate KY!

Good points made; but the other challenge, I think, is the skill of a head coach. Being a head coach requires different skills than a coordinator.

Too, will recruiting quality players decline if Stoops can't sell immediate playing time?

Sorry. Cards gave them two TDs. They had a 21 point lead on their home field with deteriorating conditions. And they still got beat by two TDs.
Stoops is a pathetic coach. I'm not sure he did anything at half time other than maybe passing out ice cream cones.

(In homer simpson whisper voice)

Get with the program ! Despite his offense having -1 total yds for the 3rd quarter,
coach stoopID, has the cayuts pointed in the right direction. He'll have them in a
bowl game by year 8

If UK fans talk about pooling their money to fire Stoops, can U of L boosters pool their money to match the offer and have UK keep him?

He isn't going anywhere with his contract. Here is the recipe for Kentucky to be a winner and this is why Stoops is turning out to be a terrible hire.

1) SEC East is has to be down. The SEC East has been down since Stoops arrived. Florida, UT and Georgia are back to normal. South Carolina will always have more talent than UK if they hire the right guy they will win a bunch of games. That leaves Vandy and Missouri. They have to be a better program than both of those two every year. UK missed the window of opportunity to capitalize on their recruiting.
2) Louisville has to a team that isn't in the Top 25. Louisville has been very good the last two years. Louisville still had significantly more talent than UK but transitioning to a new staff was an opportunity for Stoops. He missed in both games.
3) 8 homes games-won 4 forget about the games they lost the 2 wins are what were most alarming. EKU had them beat and they fired their coach.

Their schedule next year is much tougher.

If Stoops can get a very achievable five wins again next year, that will equal the win total for Brooks' first four years at LPT. In just about every measure I've looked at, Stoops is keeping pace.

Granted LPT fans want more. But they have to recognize who they are, how tough that job is, and what Stoops has accomplished. As others have said, if anything, he needs a longer contract to show recruits that the administration and U of L fans are behind him...

It depends on what standard for comparison.
Stoops compared to coaching at other programs= termination, Stoops compared with past UK HCs performance= contract extension

Exactly, EZ. And overlay that with an assessment of what available coaches would consider the LPT head coaching job, knowing that it's historically been a career killer.

Truth be told, they're kinda lucky to have Stoops...

Let's do this again next year, Mark. You guys are getting better. Really.

One of their defensive players essentially said that they weren't prepared for LJ and the read option. It is amazing that a D1 staff would not have at least done some preparation for a guy that played the last half of the previous game.

Might be "entirely" true - or might be they weren't prepared for his speed. Hard to have a practice team QB with his speed.

They are in deep trouble next year. That schedule is nothing like this year's was. Southern Miss is supposed to be the free space but that one is for sure a tough game they went 9-3 this year.

New Mexico St and Austin Peay are their only gimmes.

Zipp, I'm pretty sure you went over some peoples heads with this, but I'm with you.

Stoops needs more time. He deserves a loonngg leash.

OR maybe that guy wasn't enough of an athlete to execute what he was taught.

Nah, that could never happen at LPT...

Stoops had em ready, don't think he didn't.

We just suddenly became the juggernaut we all thought we were and they were toast.

CMS is da man! He's got em turning the corner up there.

I'm trying...........
