So if we want to try to project the future - the Cards D has an opportunity to go up against some mediocre to sub-standard offenses.

OTOH, the offense still faces a couple of tough defensive units.

It's a shame we can't ball control to help out the D.

Stats mean a lot. The offense is a complete train wreck as is special teams. D is serviceable. Makes sense we're 3-4.....you are what your record says you are

No, those numbers mean plenty. I fully expect our defense by the end of the year to be solidly in the Top Ten.

One thing you didn't incorporate in your data sets is the SOS of each team left on our schedule, to answer the question "how good were the teams against whom they have posted their results?"...

So, the only team that I would fear their stats may understate their true ability is Virginia. Wake and Pitt have posted good defensive numbers against pretty soft schedules.

We may finally get an opportunity to light up the scoreboard against Wake...

By mid season stats are a good indicator of how games should play out. The FSU game was really strange defensively and the two turnovers escalated the problem.

I agree with Zipp you have to include SOS. I like comparing a teams ranking on total offense and defense against their schedule. UK is a good example their defense is ranked 76 even though they haven't played any real good offenses. That was a red flag to me.

Pitt is getting ready to hit a brutal stretch in their schedule. They have a good defense but they haven't faced a top fifty offense. Those stats are inflated at this point. Offensively they have played some solid, no great ones so they maybe better than 94, but bottom line they aren't good on offense.

Virginia has played some good offenses 4 are in the top 30 their struggles on defense are understandable. They have faced 1 top defense in Boise State an were taken to the wood shed. They struggled to move the ball against the other higher ranked defenses. Outside of the Boise State game they have been in most of the games against good teams. Tough game which many won't expect.

Yikes.

This season is playing out like many of us suspected, 8 wins is still on the table and we will be a tested and more confident team going into the second half. Aside from FSU, we've been very close in our losses. This front loaded schedule was just a bit more than we could chew, but the back side will be like a nice dessert. This will be the lowest our numbers look for the season, only going up from here.
