SMU Sanctioned

This just in... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...on-suspends-larry-brown-30-percent-team-games

How the heck does the NCAA move this fast on SMU, but still NOTHING out of UNC?

The NCAA infractions committee is a joke.
Probably because SMU AND Larry Brown have a bad history of cheating and SMU isn't considered a blue blood program.

UNC on the other hand is considered a blue blood and is allowed more latitude because of that fact. Does that remind any of us of any other program? Any similarities? Any at all?

BTW, I agree the NCAA is nothing but a huge farce governed by bureaucrats. There has been a line drawn in the sand. You're either for the STUDENT-athlete, or you're for the money. Those trying to hang on to both are fooling themselves.

Cal tried to warn his old buddy Larry to hire Sandy Bell's sister last year but he and SMU went the cheap route.

Live and learn.

Where's the line though? I don't think anyone has drawn such a line. Certainly not the NCAA, member institutions, or fans. The irony is that the phrase "Student-Athlete" was coined by the NCAA in the effort for a money grab. So there is not "both" in this instance... just the one.

Seriously? You know where the line is. The NCAA is what it is and while we both might want to see it change, the insane amount of money on the line only spawns characters like Larry Brown who btw is much respected by John Calipari. Weird how that works.

My point is that there really is no line in the sand with the NCAA. There is no such thing as a "student-athlete"... there is no focus on academics.. there is no focus on students... just revenue. They system is broken, for sure. But until it costs them money, the NCAA won't change.
