SMU is COMING...charging into the ACC waters to compete now in 2024, so says there video on the SMU website

Check out the new Weber End Zone Complex construction tour...it is nicely done and they are rightfully pretty excited about it. There was a 50 Mil donation dedicated to that upgrade alone.

Gerald J. Ford FB stadium was built in 2000, and holds a quaint crowd of 32,000+ and the new addition includes chairback seats.

Rhett Ashley is a 40 year old up and comer in the coaching ranks. Offensive guru reputation.

SMU has utilized the portal heavily also:
2024 - 19 in, 16 out...2023 - 26 in, 23 out....2022 - 17 in, 15 out. Total of 45 in last 2 years vs 39 HS's in 3 years.

Served them well last year using this model (not only UofL uses it) and likely will carry this system into the immediate future to further augment/upgrade their roster.

Total 39 3 years HS recruits: 10 -2024....16- 2023...2022 - 13. Star breakdown: 2 - 4*, 36- 3*, 1 - 2*

2025 HS to date: 11 commits, 1 - 4*, 10 - 3*

Perusal of roster: 1 - 5*, 21 - 4*, 47 - 3* and 43 NA's or Not Rated.

Recruiting strategy indicates heavy lean towards the portal now. Worked for them last year. Why not? Eerily similar to the Cards. This team will a threat in the very near future and is playing for this year too to flex in the ACC. Time will tell, I look forward to playing them at home this year.

IMO they will be very good and hard to beat especially at home. Great FB addition for sure. Don't wake up a sleeping horse especially a Mustang!

Interesting model that SMU has since established after being decimated following the 1987 NCAA Death Penalty.

Its not over; OSU, WSU and others could be candidates for expansion as this process plays out.

It should be evident the SEC was most intentional in its selective expansion, and it has resulted in even greater financial strength and the influential power that accompanies that model. The BIG 10 has followed that same direction as well and enjoyed similar results.

The question is whether the ACC, or for that matter the BIG 12 want to try and catch up to them? There are a lot of viable candidates for further expansion out there, but the first thing the ACC must do, is to resolve the differences that exist within its own existing membership. Clemson and FSU want conference affiliation that provides the same revenue that SEC and BIG 10 members receive, something that is probably not possible in the ACC, or the Big 12 without merging the two (2) together, and then adding those viable candidates who represent strong regional TV attraction.

I’d have to look at the recent math more closely. When I checked previously, there was ample ACC money to pay up for a couple to receive SEC/BIG money. The burden is shouldered by everyone else, mostly the bottom feeders.

We should support an unequal revenue sharing plan for the entire conference. Hell, we were in the championship game year…

Radical thought: maybe that would force the likes of Wake Forrest, BC, Cuse and/or Duke out of the FB portion of the league and allow for more viable FB replacements to further enhance the league Power Ratings and stature and more eyeballs in bigger market areas. Just my Devils Advocate position to the ACC admin.

As long as it is based on performance and not on fanbase, ratings, or tradition, I'm OK with that. FSU, for example, doesn't deserve extra money because they are FSU. They have to perform.

A valid model should be based on whatever drives the revenue. If ND isn't worth a damn but hard data reveals that Irish fans show up in whatever gets measured, you gotta pay them. That doesn't mean the payouts shouldn't adjust if a program like U of L starts picking up more fan interest.

This is the real world, and no one said it's fair...

The goal should be to make the real world fair. If FSU wants a bigger slice of the pie, win something. If you aren’t going to do that, then you have established a permanent lower class that will never be successful. Moreover, they won’t invest. What’s the point, if some schools get paid more “just because”? UofL should never support a system that awards two school disproportionately based on anything but performance.

That depends on if the trans-am still runs and if Craig James is riding shotgun 😁
And don't forget all of the big uglies up front blocking the way to stardom for the running backs. Gotta have them for the Mustangs to run wild.

Boise State has a damn good football program. Maybe the ACC should invite them and put them on the same financial rung as Clemson...
They don’t have as good an overall program as Clemson, but if they prove it in the field, absolutely. You should get rewarded for on-field performance, not the size of your fan base. Otherwise there is no point in anybody investing in their athletics, particularly football, since it doesn’t matter if they win or not, they are stuck with the same TV payout.

It comes down to an equal playing field.

The big programs for the last 40 years have held the power. They've let the little guys get in on the fun, but their audience makes the product something people want to see on TV on Saturdays. People pay $$$$$'s for TV deals and ad revenue to keep it going. Those big programs could've just left the NCAA and their leagues years ago and ended it all, but they've stayed. But with the money and power involved, it was inevitable.

But now we'll see how far greed can take them. The $EC has made big money, but their teams have worked together. They've treated each other with respect and worked together to build their league. Programs like Texas have always wanted it their way. Texas strung along the Big 12 for the last decade and now they're left holding the bag. Nebraska, Missouri, & Texas A&M were smart and got out before they were left out. But now Programs like Texas & USC have invaded strong leagues like the SEC and Big Ten. They now no longer have power and they'll become a disease that will kill those leagues as they are. The best 30-40 programs will separate in 10-20 years. That's the path we are on today.

That path isn't fun, but it benefitted us at times. Penn State wanted in the Big East for football in 1982, but they didn't let them in. They needed 6 votes and could only get 5. FSU and Penn State moved to the ACC and Big Ten in the early 90's. SC & Arkansas went to the SEC too. Miami to the Big East. And then a decade later Miami, BC, and VT moved to the ACC which opened up us moving to the Big East. Then a decade later Maryland moving to the Big Ten got us to the ACC. Now it's the next decade and the big moves are happening. A decade from now, there will still be movement.
