People are saying that the open portal will be the end of mid-majors, but I think it's the savior of mid-majors.
Guys like Slaz would never consider a move like this if they had to sit out, but now he can leave and jump in immediately. He will be a 4 star talent with ACC experience. He has 3 years left and can't transfer again without sitting.
Guys like Slaz can jump down and be a star. And the best part? Those guys have used their 1 time transfer and will more than likely stay. The Damion Lee and Carli Jones' type guys may move up, but you'll also see A LOT more Slaz type guys move down. The talent level may be a lot better.
Mid-Major basketball being strong is great for the NCAA's future. Mid-majors generating interest at their local/regional level will create a lot more fans in the sport. Bellarmine, Belmont, Murray, EKU, Morehead, NKU, etc. type schools will care more and create more hype for the sport in those communities when their teams are winning.
