One month and one day after requesting a release from his Letter of Intent to the University of Kentucky, five-star point guard Skyy Clark announced he has flipped his pledge and committed to the University of Illinois. Clark chose the Illini in a Thursday decision aired live on ESPNU at the State Champions Invitational over finalists Louisville, USC, Tennessee, Maryland and Washington.

No surprise here. They are going to have to go to the portal for guards. I doubt they find what they need in the high school ranks.

All these silly twitter post from people that know nothing or trolling other fanbases.

Late in the game. They will have to piece together a team in year 1.

I think we still need to go out and get a guard or two from the high school ranks, kids that aren't ranked so high, that want to be a part of this program. Kids like the ones that kick our butts every year, undersized, under evaluated, under appreciated.
We see these type guards every March making an impact on the tournament. It would be nice to get one or two-too small for major college type guards.

I think they can find some high school kids but not in the top 50. They would have to find a diamond in the rough.

The problem with people spitting out bad information it raises fans expectations. This 1st year is a crap shoot. They will find talented players but I doubt it will be elite.

Definitely need at least 2 guards to go along with Ellis. Cards back court is extremely thin right now.

Aren’t all of those kids like 5’10”?
Yes they're probably in that range. These type players kick our arse every year. They understand the game and have hearts as big as the basketball.
Doesn't have to be these guys, just players like them, and not necessarily all of them. Pont guard in particular.

We haven't had a true Pg since Peyton and he was considered undersized, although he was highly regarded out of HS.
Mostly,we've had converted 2 guards play point. I'd love to have somebody with the moxy that Siva had at the end of his career here.

Best case scenario is Ellis figures out PG.

1) SG—-Need 2 legit players here unless James can play here. The Shannon kid for Texas Tech (not happening) is an example.
2) PG—Ellis need someone in the portal to push Ellis.
3) James-Ree (potentially) at the 3. I feel really good here. If James can play 2 then find another wing in portal.
4) The 4-5 spot have some flexibility between Rose-Withers-Curry-JJ. I think they need another big that is legit.

Roster isn’t that far off if they find the right fits in the portal.

Preston Knowles and Russ Smith come to my mind.

I'm not sure Ellis can be anything but a 2. It's not really his fault that he's played that position his whole life. It would be akin to Russ playing the point. The other guys might never see the rock.Lol

Like I said before, outside of maybe Chris Smith,we've not really had a true point in a minute. Rozier was converted,Mitchell was also a 2 that was tried at the point(both were decent points) but they weren't floor generals like Siva. My point is,we've been converting all these shooters instead of going out and getting guys that only care about setting up their teammates and it's been a minute since we've gotten a whiff of any real hardware.

Yeah Cards haven't had a true floor general type PG, where you can feel them controlling the flow and pace of the game, since Siva.

If we could get a PG anywhere close to that ability that could also be a threat to score/shoot it would be great.

I would like bigger guards and more size at every position if possible. The only thing with small guards is that they usually have to be lightning quick to blow by their man and be able to shoot outside consistently in order to succeed in leagues like ACC. We saw this year what happens with short guards that lack most or all of those traits.

If Mitchell stayed at PG Louisville would of been a hard out. They weee terrific when he ran the point.
He,more than anybody else converted from the shooting guard, got it. He was the best passer on that last team he played on.

Yeah, you can’t just come and announced you’re a PG.. His assist to turnover ratio was not that good. You have to change your entire mentality.
