I am sure we agree, but motivation shows up day one. How long does it take?Denny Crum used to say the bench was his best motivator. If BHH doe not bust his ass every time he is in the game and at practice then KP needs to get him well-acquainted with the bench.
I agree. A coach can only go so far in motivating a player IMO. But if the player doesn’t have that motivation in them somewhere it’s never really gonna be thereI am sure we agree, but motivation shows up day one. How long does it take?
At this point I think BHH is who he is. He's a Junior - player motivation shouldn't be a factor this late in his career.
I can't foresee a scenario where Kenny Payne of all people is the man that motivates and molds BHH into the player he's capable of being. KP has given and will give BHH every opportunity to perform and he either will or he won't. I don't think KP's "development" is going to be a factor in how BHHs career turns out here. I think the best we can hope for when it comes to KP is that he recruits talent and puts that talent in the best situation to showcase their skills and succeed. I don't see Kenny Payne molding a Kyle Kuric or a Russ Smith level player into a high end college player. He's not going to motivate, develop and "extract" talent out of a kid. He's either going to be successful here by finally landing elite recruits and allowing them the freedom to showcase their skills or he's going to fail, IMO.
Developing and motivating are two different things. If a player is motivated - most coaches can develop them. The greatest coaches motivate players AND develop them. Washington even says on the link you provided “IF YOU WANT TO MEET THEM” (referring to lofty career goals) that Payne will develop them. He makes no mention of Kenny leading the charge or motivating him to be a better player - he simply said Payne was available if you wanted to work. Which as an assistant at a program like UK - I’m sure KP had more free time than most assistant coaches. Why Ex-Kentucky players Nick Richards, PJ Washington call Louisville's Kenny Payne 'family'

“I’d say probably (Payne) was the first coach that actually sat down with me and took his time to develop my whole entire game,” Richards said. “I’d say we were in the gym every single night. I can talk to him about anything. That dude’s like family.
But, don't we all have some pretty dumb relatives somewhere? Why Ex-Kentucky players Nick Richards, PJ Washington call Louisville's Kenny Payne 'family'
