One of my good friends just got a job in the Louisville area and will be relocating there next month. A group of us are planning on coming down to visit her, and have targeted the September 16th weekend to do so, so that we can check out the Cards and Clemson.

We'll be coming in from Iowa City, and we're looking for suggestions on places to make sure we check out, where to tailgate, and any other suggestions that you ladies and gentlemen would have for us to make sure we have a great time.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Food wise and for some fun bars I would check out Bardstown Road if you're gonna be in town a couple days. It's a little out of the way of the stadium though. Obviously the slugger museum and the Ali museum are downtown and there are a few good bars and restaurants down there as well. I like Blue Grass Brewing company, Sidebar, and Troll Pub which are all by the YUM center.

good luck with tickets

Churchill Downs is right next to the stadium.. If the weather's good and the horses are running there in Sept, that's a fun afternoon. I second the Bardstown Rd suggestion. Look into the "Bourbon Trail". You don't have to tour all of them, but all the distilleries love guests, and give tours and tastings, and it's a great excuse to enjoy the scenery of the area. Bernheim Forest is beautiful that time of year, and if you love nature, worth the trip, and across the road form the Jim Beam Distillery. Lots of great hiking trails and nature everywhere. Mamouth Cave National Park.... World's Largest Cave system is just over an hour to the south... Lot's of very interesting tours there and at many private caves nearby in the area. Lots of museums downtown, including Ali Center, and Louisville Slugger Museum... Lots of Arts venues... YUM Center, KY Center for the Arts, Louisville Ballet, Palace Theatre, Brown Theatre, among others.... Might not hurt to check into what concerts, and performing arts options you can get into the weekend you're here. Might find something good along those lines. An original National Historic genuine Steamboat offers rides from the riverfront. They dry dock for the winter, but may still be running in Sept. Pretty much all tailgating takes place at the stadium. Louisville fans are known for and take pride in being a friendly group of tailgaters.... Stop by and say high to folks as you walk about... Hope ya'll enjoy your stay!
