I haven't followed this drama as closely as I would have had it involved U of L directly. Maybe some of you have.
As I understand the issue now, it's whether the alleged pay-for-play phone call between Miller and the prospect's handlers was before or after his signing with Arizona. While on face value that seems like a reasonable question, the situation with Brian Bowen and U of L sheds some light at least based on available info.
Bowen committed to U of L on June 3, 2017. (LINK) According to the FBI complaint, however, the parties in that now famous hotel room didn't start "arranging" payment to Bowen's family until July 2017. (LINK) And that was just the initial payment of $25,000. There are many references to the back-and-forth communications that occurred--with specific dates mentioned--and it was ALL AFTER Bowen's signing.
Based on our own example, it's clear that one does not necessarily precede the other. In fact, with the trustworthiness of the players and families, it could well be that the signing always preceded the payment. Otherwise, you have the Bam Adebayo situation where the kid probably collected money from TWO parties before signing with one.
In conclusion, the date of the Arizona kid's commitment may have little to do with the date of Miller's phone call. And it wouldn't surprise me if it preceded it...
