Why Mack? What has he done that would make you want to go all in on him? Not to say that he wouldn’t come but, he’s a Xavier grad and based upon his record, I wouldn’t give him the money / contract that it’s going to take to get him to leave there.I still think he is an option at the end of the year. He has the right personality, he is well respected in the community, he is very passionate about the game and the city. He could energize the fan and donor base.
I would be all in on Chris Mack. There are a handful of other guys that could handle this job, but if no one of that quality wants this mess Scotty D would be a great backup plan.
You can keep him if you want this kid is not ready for this level of coaching. Why do people think this? What has he done in his coaching career to earn such a high level job? Their are coaches at all other levels trying to get their. Guys you have to earn your stripes. Not cause we are comfortable with him not going to cut it. Yesterday was the reason why he is not anywhere near ready for a HC at this level. No, DP was the right choice during the transition. When the AD and Pres interim issues are settled then a decision can be made to keep DP or find someone else.

Yes it is. I don’t think it’s “all in on him” good - particularly when I think we have other outstanding options but, it’s good. He’d be a solid 2nd or 3rd choice.4 Sweet 16’s and 1 elite 8 in 8 seasons at Xavier. Pretty freaking good
Plus a lot of that was in the A10. They play multiple defenses and a very good offensive scheme. I will confess that I am an X fan and don't want Chris to leave, but if he does, I want him in Louisville.4 Sweet 16’s and 1 elite 8 in 8 seasons at Xavier. Pretty freaking good

OK, who hijacked this guy's login?...Please everyone stop pretending that we can go out and get anybody we want right now. We are a mess right now and with all the uncertainties, any reputable Coach right now risks taking a big hit to their careers. We went with a guy who has coaching in his blood lines, knows all the players (probably the biggest plus) and loves the University. If the fan base won’t support CDP, I’m afraid the players are going to 2nd guess their coach. That’s how young athletes are today. They don’t care what you did as a player, they want to know what you are going to do for them personally.

\We hired a guy who does not know what he is doing because the players knew he was a pushover and it was a cute PR move.
I guess you said it somewhere but still don’t understand why we need to impose a two year ban? To appease the NCAA? That only sets us back further and ensures that there is nothing to look forward to. Let it play out on its own. Rise from the ashes. Here’s my plan for UofL basketball:
-play out this season and see what happens
- after season impose 2 year postseason ban
- allow all players to transfer or redshirt if they want
- make seat donations 1/2 price for the next two seasons
- go after Chris Mack and offer long term deal
- if big coaches (Mack, Marshall, Donovan) balk at UofL, offer a 2 or 3 year deal to Scotty Davenport with option to join the next staff as an associate head coach.
- this will allow Davenport to do some recruiting knowing that he most likely would be retained on staff at a salary higher than what he makes at BU
- taking the self-imposed ban would allow for the coach after Davenport to tell players that we think that we are done with any sanctions
Basically we scorch the next two seasons while playing a fun brand of b-ball under Scotty. It allows for some recruiting continuity and would then allow the longer term coach to have a mostly clean slate. Davenport would make way more money than at BU. This would basically allow us to not avoid the pseudo probation that a dragged out FBI investigation will have over us for multiple years.

We have fired the coach and the AD. I know maybe that some feel actions were needed sooner but at least it shows we (the University) were willing to sever ties with two of the most important people if not iconic figures. Hopefully, punishing athletes who are not even enrolled at the University is contractictory to allowing student-athletes earn an education. It’s not about keeping kids from playing sports, hopefully.
We fired the person or persons responsible for trying to funnel cash to a recruit. We have told the recruit that he’s not going to play here and we won’t from here on out, tolerate those actions.
I’m not sure we would be looking at losing the banner if we took our self imposed ban a little further and disciplined CRP at the time. It showed the NCAA in their eyes, we weren’t really taking this seriously enough. Rick’s continuous denials and TJ’s support of him has left us where we are now, I really believe that.
Yes I said this at the time. He may even be a permanent choice. The guy is a hidden gem.Scotty was the best coach for this but thats water under the bridge now.SMH
