Loved what i heard from Rick today he touched on alot of hot takes. Talked about getting good talent in reference to the NBA Warrriors in winning at a very high level. And the biggest thing he stated was about working with these players on the NBA three point line shot. Rick is recognizing he needs to talk and teach the next level to these guys that want to play at that level now. And that the last two years have been the best recruiting ever since hes been here. Made me happy to hear him change tone about these things. Things are looking up fellows.

I don't really care what Pitino says--we've all heard him speak... I can assure you that he's not changing much in his coaching philosophy at 65 years of age that doesn't improve his odds of winning a championship.

You can read into his comments anything you want, but that is his priority. Don't let your lust for OAD kids cloud your judgment...

Actually rick has always recruited one and dones and I'd bet that he isn't in the habit of wasting his time. He recruits them because he wants them and would take as many as he could get his hands on. He's had fascinating success without them. Perhaps he's just taking a different approach this time around. Maybe selling a pro future a little more than a College career. That's how I took his comments.

Pitino recruits OAD kids he thinks he can get and whom he thinks can fit his program. He doesn't simply cast a net for the Top Twenty. Of course, he also doesn't have eight scholarships to fill each year.

He doesn't promise starting roles or even playing time. He makes them play defense in order to log minutes, and he makes them get their bodies in condition.

The one or two kids who make that cut every few years THEN have to want to play for Pitino. When ALL of that falls into place, Pitino lands a OAD kid. As we all know, that hasn't happened too often, and I don't really expect that to change much.

"Elite program," my a$$...

Hasn't happened at all. He has landed a couple of done and one kids though. Surprisingly, coaches like Calipari have a real problem with the 5th year transfer players. Go figure.

Squid only has a problem with 5th years when we bring them in. Last year he had a 5th year that was Ok.

Manboobs got his feathers ruffled when we got a 5th year kid who just happened to leave a team one of his cronies worked for. Funny that same guy lost his job shortly after because he sucks at his profession. Cal's coaching tree is terrible as it is anyway and he doesn't like it when one of the very few rotten branches get bad press. He only gets angry when something interferes with his giant narcissistic bubble of arrogance.

A couple of points about CRP's presser and Calivacate: one, I thought CRP was rather sedate yesterday and was sans hyperbole; and two, who gives a big rat's ass what Calivacate thinks or feels. I sure don't.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

When I first looked at your post I thought for a second Calivacate was a new recruit I never heard of that Pitino was talking about... Then I read it more carefully... :)

I like to give Pitino credit for signing a 1AD in Sebastian Telfair. If the NBA had the 1AD rule that year we'd have gotten Telfair and he'd have gone to the NBA the year after. It might have changed the entire perception of Pitino and 1AD players.

I don't disagree

Correct. I'm just trying to give guys like RFF3 some hope... :D
Yeah I hear you. I personally value the scholarship more than the kids do - I think. Once upon a time, a degree was the ultimate prize for playing a sport. Now it's just a stepping stone to continue playing a sport for mad cash. That's alright I guess, but it was never an option for me. Most won't have that option either regardless what they're being told today. It's a very elite and small group who can play professional sports and sustain a career for more than 2 to 3 years. A degree sure would help open some doors after those 2 to 3 years are over. Just saying.

I am still trying to understand why Pitino made the comment.......................
Pitino did, however, say he doesn't anticipate the committee punishing future Louisville teams.

"I don't think anything's going to happen to the future," Pitino said.

Does that mean something will happen to this years team????

You're putting too much thought into it. This year's team is a future team. They haven't played a lick together yet.

Bowen was a great get. And I have to agree with you that we need to get this kind of talent too. I don't want a team full of freshmen every year, like UK. But Rick needs to get the best talent he can (assuming good character, of course) and let the chips fall where they may. And I think that's what he is trying to do - now more than ever. Yes, some may be one-and-done. But some will stay and improve. VJ may be an example of that.

Now let's go get Langford.
